Martinsville man died in weekend crash

A two-vehicle crash in Patrick County on Saturday resulted in the death of a Martinsville man, according to a release from the Virginia State Police.

The crash occurred on Dec 29, 2018, at 8:49 a.m. on Virginia 8, four-tenths of a mile north of Virginia 618 in Patrick County, according to the release.

Then, a 2007 Freightliner tractor-trailer was traveling south on Virginia 8, the release stated. The tractor-trailer crossed the center line and struck a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado which was traveling north on Virginia 8, according to the release.

The 2007 Freightliner was driven by Joseph George Deleo, Jr. 46, of Bassett, according to a release. Deleo was wearing his seatbelt and was not injured, the release stated.

The driver of the 2002 Chevrolet, identified as Charles Levene Sellers, 65, of Martinsville, died at the scene.

Sellers was wearing his seatbelt, the release stated.

Deleo was charged with reckless driving in connection with the incident.

The crash remains under investigation by Virginia State Police Trooper N.D. Knight.
