The Patrick County Master Gardeners are super excited to sponsor a variety of educational programs on WHEO radio each Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. throughout March.
Mike Tatum, owner of Heavenly Hill Honey, located in Ararat, will start off our series on March 3 with a program on the importance of bees and what’s involved in beekeeping. He also will share information on the different types of honey. Mike will speak again on March 10, during an enlightening program on the benefits of elderberries and how to grow them in our own backyards.
Speaking of backyards, the topic, ‘Raising Chickens in Your Backyard,’ will be presented by John and Jessica Hutchens on March 17. They will share their wealth of knowledge gained on their personal journey and explore everything from the choice of breed to special considerations for winter care.
On March 24, we will learn ‘All About Coffee’ from Dave Henry, owner of Henry’s Fresh Roast. Dave will cover facts on coffee, beginning with the varied beans and roasts and ending with how to brew that “perfect” cup.
One of our own, Norma Bozenmayer, PC EMG, will complete the series on March 31 with the program, ‘Using Native Plants to Attract Wildlife and Support the Ecosystem.’ Norma will explain what an ecosystem actually is and what’s involved in creating one at home. She will share the vital role of native plants and recommendations for those in our area which will support local wildlife.
We hope you enjoy learning from these specialists we have in our own community. We are thankful to each one for sharing their knowledge with us and thankful for WHEO radio, 92.7 FM and 1270 AM.
