I was going to make a witty remark about how I don’t know what day or month it is or how summer is here, and we can get back to a simpler summer of chasing fireflies, running barefoot and creek cool-offs. But I cannot. I do not have the heart to write those idyllic words of prose. My heart is breaking, and I am numb and anxious for our local and small businesses due to the pandemic.
The social and racial unrest is too much to handle. Thankfully, we live in Patrick County, which does give us some buffer from the madness occurring in larger urban areas. But, to say racism does not exist here would be a lie. So, no matter what one believes or how one feels, we got to this point; this is where we are now, and we ALL must work together to find a peaceful reconciliation and understanding.
Stay safe and be kind.
