Melissa Watson Martin, 68, of Patrick Springs, VA passed away on Friday, July 2, 2021, at her home. She was born on January 17, 1953, in Rutherford County, NC.
Surviving are her husband, Alfred Martin of the home; one daughter, Dori E. Martin (Jonathan Lawson) of Fredericksburg, VA; her mother, Myrlie Gordon Barrier of Rutherfordton, NC; one sister, Myra Upton of Rutherfordton, NC; two brothers, Malcom Watson (Joan) of Rutherfordton, NC and Maurice Watson (Cheryl) of North Myrtle Beach, SC, and her beloved dog, Abby. She was preceded in death by her father, Mack Watson.
A devoted educator, she taught school for 33 years, almost all of which were in Patrick County Public Schools. She was an animal lover, an avid reader, and a proud yellow dog Democrat.
She was a member of Providence United Methodist Church in Patrick Springs, VA, where she sang in the choir and served on various boards and committees over the years.
A private memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 7, 2021, at Norris Funeral Services in Stuart with Pastor Keith Vernon officiating. Friends and loved ones may call on the family at the home.
