The Patrick County Middle School Baseball team had two big wins last week.
The Cougars played the Fieldale-Collinsville Cavaliers on April 17 at home, taking a 10-0 win.
Stuart Callahan was credited the win pitching five innings, striking out four, walking none, and allowing two hits. Michael Nelson led the Cougars with three hits and three runs, Martin Sawyers had one hit and one run, Tucker Swails had one run.
Callahan and Braedon Augustine had one hit and one run each, Toby Perkins had two hits and one run, and Bubba Taylor added one run.
“We played well. With this win, we finish second and get a first-round bye in our tournament.” The Cougars are now 10-2 on the season,” said Coach Dale Overfelt.
The Cougars also beat the Laurel Park Lancers 2-1 on April 16.
Swails took the win on the mound for the Cougars pitching all seven innings, striking out 13, walking three, and only allowing one hit. Tristan Underwood had one hit, Sawyers had one hit and one run, and Callahan added two hits and one run.
“We played a very tough game. We had excellent pitching. Tucker only gave up one hit and struck out 13. We found some life in the 6th inning and scored two runs, which was enough to win,” Overfelt said.
