Mildred Harris Ayers, 85, of Martinsville, died Monday, May 16, 2016, at Blue Ridge Manor.
She was born October 2, 1930, in Patrick County and was a daughter of the late Oliver Cromwell and Ethel Elizabeth Craddock Harris. She was also preceded in death by her husband, David Ayers, in 1990; her brother, Frank G. Harris; her sisters, Beatrice H. Mills and Kathleen Baker; and a brother-in-law, George D. Baker.
She was a graduate of Stuart High School class of 1948. She was a member of Rich Acres Christian Church since 1958, and used her financial expertise in her service as Sunday school secretary for many years.
She worked many years in bookkeeping for Martinsville Office Supply and Woolworth’s. After retiring, she enjoyed traveling the USA with her friends. For many years she took care of her sister Kathleen and brother-in-law, George David Baker.
She is survived by her brother-in-law, Leslie Mills of Ashland; her sister-in-law, Dorothy Harris of Winston-Salem, N.C.; two nieces; two nephews; great nieces; great nephews, great-great nieces; and great-great nephews.
The funeral service was held Saturday in the Roselawn Chapel with Pastor Tim Hunt officiating. Burial was in Roselawn Burial Park.
