Patrick County Sheriff Dan Smith said an elderly Patrick Springs woman was found safe after she left her home on foot and became lost.
Patrick deputies and Virginia State troopers responded to the call at approximately 12:15 p.m. Tuesday and began to look for the woman, Smith said. After searching with no luck, the decision was made to get a bloodhound K-9 to the area to help in the search.
Henry County Sheriff’s Deputy Corey Waddell and his bloodhound, “Buford,” responded and ultimately located the woman on a powerline in thick vegetation.
“We are grateful for Deputy Waddell and Buford,” Smith said, and added that “trying to locate someone when you have no indication of which direction they initially traveled is like trying to find a needle in a haystack,”
Authorities estimated the woman was missing for nearly five hours when she was found.
Smith added that she was transported to the hospital.
