It surely is feeling a lot like summer these days: hot and humid. Just think, July is almost gone.
I rode with my friend Linda Roberts over to Concord United Methodist Church to their annual ice cream supper. It was good to hear Mike Hall sing and see Sue and some more people I know.
Guess what? I had two cups of their orange pineapple homemade ice cream. It was so delicious. Then Linda gave me one of those famous fried pies. It was a good evening.
Thanks to LaNita Harris and Pat Spangler for some more photos of our class reunion.
Linda Roberts and I enjoyed being on Patrick County Blessings the other Friday. At first, we were a little nervous, but got okay after it started.
I enjoyed hearing from Beverly Woody and Pauline Martin. Beverly sent me a poem about road building in the mountain area. Actually, it’s a song and I knew all the people named. It was funny and I laughed all the way through. Those were the good old days.
Claudine Wood up in the Mountain View area enjoyed a visit from Lilli Belcher and son Larry. “Miss Claudine” loves company.
The blueberries at Blueberry Hill are pretty this year. I’ve been twice, but will go again soon—surely is a lovely view of the mountains from there. It’s awesome!
The last time I was at The Blueberry Patch, owner Doris Craighead came out and helped me fill my jar, invited me in for ice water and then gave me some homemade peach ice cream. Can’t beat that! It was delicious. Thanks, Doris.
The Soup Kitchen really got in a cooking mood on Tuesday and fixed corned beef and cabbage and baked beans. Everyone got a quart of cabbage and corned beef and had a pint of baked beans, plus some homemade bread.
I thought my cat friend had got run over because I saw a gray cat that had been hit down the road. Guess what? My cat friend came walking down the driveway on Tuesday morning and I was so happy to have him visit again.
I was so sorry to hear of the death of Bernard Rakes. Love and heartfelt sympathy go to the family. His son Donnie was my boss at Bassett Walker.
The Men’s Ministry cooked breakfast food for supper on Wednesday: biscuits, sausage, gravy and fried apples. It was delicious. Thank you for your hard work.
Household hint: never store salt in silver salt shakers. This can lead to tarnish.
