We have had some real summer time weather this past week. The hummingbirds stay in the azalea bushes and come out get some nectar and back in the bushes, late evening they stay out.
It was good to see Lynn Foddrell at the Patrick County Music Association doing the blues music and playing his dad’s guitar. Everyone was really enjoying it. Junior Cassidy and Denny Alley played with Lynn.
So sorry to hear of the death of Mrs. Carlene Shelor. I’ve known Carlene almost her entire life. My love and heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family in this time of sorrow.
I know one person who is enjoying the hot weather and that “Miss” Claudine Wood upon the mountain. She loves it.
The Patrick Springs Pentecostal Holiness Church will be building the church in India. They reached the goal. I think that is so exciting. Another thing I’m excited about is orphans from Romania are coming to church in July.
It was good to see Ronnie Lankford in Elizabeth’s Pizza the other day. He bought some goats from my dad one time. Also, he is a great musician.
When I went to Elizabeth’s Pizza for my weekly visit, I was happy to see Jessica with the new baby. It was so cute with lots of dark hair. And the other boy is growing and loves his little brother.
The neighbors are really busy these days getting up their hay.
Regina at Curls and Colors gave me a really nice haircut the other day – with this natural curl, I was beginning to look like Phyllis Diller when she did her comedy act. Otherwise, she was a very pretty lady. Remember her?
I was so happy when my former neighbor at Meadows of Dan called me on Tuesday. So good to hear from Linda Hopkins. Elwood, Linda and Earnest bought my dad’s farm and they still live there. The Hopkins are fine people. If I was younger, I might move but at my age, guess I’d better stay put.
Food for thought – It’s a great thing to know the season for speech and for silence.
Fruit Smoothies
1 frozen banana, peeled and sliced
2 cups frozen strawberries, cherries, or raspberries
1 cup milk
1/2 cup plain or vanilla yogurt
1/2 cup freshly squeezed orange juice
2-3 Tablespoons honey or to taste
Put all the ingredients in a blender and process until smooth. Pour into glass and serve.
Note: For non diary smoothies, you can substitute one cup rice milk for the milk and yogurt or use soy yogurt or soy milk instead of dairy.
Helpful hint – “Think outside the bowl” Choose brightly colored bowls to set off dips or get creative with hollowed out loaves of bread, bell peppers, heads of cabbage or winter squash.
