The Lord’s Acre Sale really had some nice things and several beautiful quilts made by quilters in Patrick County. Nelson Automotive from Martinsville donated a nice truck to be auctioned.
I surely did enjoy Mike, Bobby and Duane (remainder of The Southern Prophets) doing some singing at the sale. It was a good day.
I was so sorry to hear of the death of Warren Fain. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family.
I got to see quite a few top of the mountain folks at the Lord’s Acre Sale. Everybody looked great.
The Jesus House Clothing Ministry is all set and ready to go with the fall and winter clothing. It was good to see Belinda back.
It was a nice surprise when my neighbor down the road—Mary Simmons and her two granddaughters—came by. She brought me some baked sweet potatoes and yummy walnut bread. I loved it. Thanks.
I guess I’m still celebrating my birthday. Gloria Biggs cooked Sunday lunch for all her family who celebrated a birthday in October and she invited me. Thank you!
Up on the mountain in Meadows of Dan it was the famous Pancake Days for the past two weekends—big crowds, good food and fellowship. I have good memories of working there all day. It was fun seeing all the people.

The Soup Kitchen was busy on Tuesday making 70-plus quarts of pintos and chicken soup. They had some delicious breads also.
It was nice to talk with Ann Swayze on Tuesday. She was a good friend of my mom’s. Put her on your prayer list.
Heartfelt sympathy goes to the family of Alma Hughes. She was a very sweet lady. I used to see her a lot at different places.
We had cool weather and some places had low 30s last week and the wind was strong here. The autumn days are pretty and I love the decorations in people’s yards.
October 28 is Hallelujah Harvest Night at Patrick Springs Pentecostal Holiness Church. There will be something for everyone—games, cake walk, gospel hayride, candy for the kids and hot dogs—all free. Hope to see you there from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m.
Food arrangement: in microwave: chicken pieces should be arranged so that the thicker, meatier portions are around the outer edges of the dish and the thin, bony parts are toward the center of the dish.
MICROWAVE APPLE NUT CAKE
Microwave cooking:
3 eggs
1-1/2 cups sugar
3/4 cup salad oil
2 cups all purpose flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 Tbsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 cup chopped nuts (your choice)
5 medium size apples, cored, peeled and thinly sliced
Cream eggs and sugar. Add oil and mix well. Sift together flour, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg. Mix dry ingredients with sugar mixture. Stir in nuts and apples.
Pour cake batter into a tube pan suited for a microwave. Then microwave at high 14-15 minutes. Rotate dish 1/2 turn after 7 minutes. Cool in pan. Yield: 8-10 servings.
