Mr. Herman Hassel Dalton, age 95 of Stuart, passed away Wednesday, September 22, 2021, at his home. He was born in Patrick County on May 11, 1926, to the late Arthur Everett Dalton and Annice Hall Dalton. In addition to his parents, Mr. Dalton was preceded in death by his loving wife, Daisy Plasters Dalton; a son, Everette Dalton; a grandson, Landon Priddy; two brothers, Edward Dalton, and Richard Dalton; and three sisters, Evelyn Wiggington, Grace Dalton and Claris Hall. Herman served in the United States Navy, loved to hunt, collect guns, and pocket watches. He also owned just about every car from the 1940’s to the 1980’s. Herman was an excellent fiddle player and singer, playing and singing everything from Bluegrass to Gospel songs. In 1973, Herman and his son were invited to play at the Grand Old Opry in a group called the “Foothill Boys”.
Mr. Dalton is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Joanne Dalton of Woodlawn; two daughters and a son-in-law, Ann Shumate of Stuart (his loving caregiver) and Regena and Jimmy Rogers of Lawsonville, North Carolina; a daughter-in-law, Carolyn Dalton of King, North Carolina; eight grandchildren, Jennifer Graham, and husband, Zack of Cumming, Georgia, Diane Collins and husband, David of Rural Hall, North Carolina, Edward Dalton of Aiken, South Carolina, Brandy Cook and husband, Chad of Lawsonville, Whitney Leach and husband, Mason of Kansas City, Missouri, Katie Finch and husband, Michael of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Karyn Mickey and husband, Jeff of King, North Carolina, Amy Hensley and husband, Don of King, North Carolina; eight great-grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, Tammy Croom of Georgia, Mitchell Brown of Tennessee, and Sheri Bobbitt of Woodlawn; two great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Myrtle Gregory and Mabel Rakes; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, September 25, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at Wayside Community Church Cemetery with Pastor Ricky Rogers officiating.
