Mr. Howard Elmer Fain, age 91 of Martinsville, Virginia passed away on Friday, February 19, 2021, at his home. He was born in Stuart on June 10, 1929, to the late Howard Cabell Fain and Elva Vipperman Fain. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Patsy Sigmon Fain; a stepson, Ted Hall; two brothers, Charles Fain and Jimmy Fain; and four sisters, Opal F. Martin, Katherine F. Lovell, Betty F. Garrett, and Maxine F. Storey. Mr. Fain faithfully served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a devoted member at Hillcrest Baptist Church, where he served as an usher. He retired from DuPont with over thirty years of service. Howard was known for his love of the outdoors and Phillpott Lake. He took enjoyment in teaching his grandchildren, nieces, and nephews how to water ski and he was an avid beekeeper. He will be remembered as a loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.
Mr. Fain is survived by two children, Vicki L. Fain (Bruce M. Frederick, Jr.) of Check, and Jeffrey Howard Fain (Vickie) of Bassett; three grandchildren, Carol Lynn Adkins (Matt Wynn), Jamie Fain (Kayla), and Joseph Fain (Patricia); four great-grandchildren, Jackson, Emma, Ava, and Jett; two step-great-grandchildren, Mason and Olivia; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, February 24, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. in Bouldin Memorial Presbyterian Church Cemetery with Pastor Randy Aldridge officiating. Military Rites will be conducted by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard. Friends are welcome to pay their final respects by visiting Moody Funeral Home in Stuart on Tuesday, February 23, 2021, from 12:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be to Hillcrest Baptist Church, 18075 A.
