Mr. James H. Dean, 74, of Mint Hill passed away on Monday January 11, 2021. He was born in Richmond, VA to the late Clarence E. Dean, Jr. and Jane Leigers Dean. Moving from Richmond to Norfolk to Louisville to Charlotte, he enjoyed a 40 year storied career in Loss Prevention with Liberty Mutual Insurance Co. Jim was a member of the Army Reserves, training at Fort Ord and weekends in Richmond VA, Jim loved baseball and was said to be an encyclopedia of baseball stats. He played first base for the beloved VT Hokies in the ‘60s and enjoyed many years of get-togethers with his VT family. Golf became his favorite hobby where he played countless rounds at Pine Lake Country Club. After retirement, he enjoyed weekday golf and camaraderie with the Antique Road Show group. Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 48 years, Sandra Y. Dean, their children and their families. He was a proud Dad and proud Grandpa. He is survived by his daughter Becky Dean Scarlett, her husband Brent, and their children Caroline and Jonathan. Also surviving is his son Bobby Dean, his wife Cassie, and their children Madison and Kayleigh. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by a brother, Norman K. Dean. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2021 at 2:00pm in the Yeatts Family Cemetery. Moody Funeral Services in Mt Airy is serving the family.
