Mr. John Wayne Shambley, 76, of Claudville, VA, passed away at Northern Regional Hospital Thursday, January 14, 2021. He was born in Surry County, December 11, 1944 to the late John and Betty Gray Parries Shambley. John bravely served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He retired from Proctor-Silex. John spent his days helping others doing whatever needed to be done. He always had a smile on his face and a story or two to share. John loved everyone he met, and everyone loved him back. John loved his church and church family. In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening, playing golf with his buddies, and spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by a sister, Annabelle Gravley and a nephew Tony Portis. Left to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 52 years, Evie Thompson Shambley; a sister Patsy Portis; nieces and nephews, Randy (Penny) Gravley, Marty (Tammy) Gravley, Gay Langston, Kathy Holt, Lisa (James) Tickle, great-nieces and nephews, Marty (Jessica) Gravley, Jeremy Gravley, Kelsey Gravley, Daniel Gravley, Tyler Gravley, Maranda (Brandon) Griggs, Chris Yow, Angel Sparks, and Sherri (Ryan) Wicker, great-great nieces and nephews, Isaac Gravley, Ezekiel Gravley, Riley Gravley, Mae Hensley, Michael Sparks, Mason Sparks, Ty Wicker, and Avery Wicker.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, January 22, 2021, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Buford Jessup and Rev. Rickey Rogers officiating. Burial will follow at Unity Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Ararat, VA with full military honors by Patrick County Veterans Honor Guard. John will lie-in-state at Moody Funeral Home on Friday from 1:00 PM until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Gideons International, P.O.
