Ms. Malissa Jewel Gray, age 84 of Stuart, passed away Sunday, March 13, 2022, at Northern Regional Hospital in Mt. Airy, NC. She was born in Stokes County, NC on July 20, 1937, to the late Roy Lawson and Lelia Hill Lawson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Billy Ray Gray; two sisters, Inez Stewart, Clara Mills; and two brothers, Elbert and Alvin Lawson. Ms. Gray had retired from Bassett-Walker (V.F. Corp) with 29 years of service. She was affectionately known as Banny J. by everyone that loved and knew her. She truly loved her family with her whole heart. She enjoyed gardening, preserving food, watching and feeding her birds, doing word search puzzles, and cooking. She was the best cook in the world, especially her chicken and dumplings. She was always a hard worker at whatever she was doing. She also loved playing Rook and Chinese Checkers. She will be forever missed by her family and friends.
Surviving is two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Russell Gregory of Ridgeway, Malissa and Kevin Reynolds of Patrick Springs; four grandchildren, Justin Gregory and wife, Megan, Kevin Daniel Reynolds, Kate Reynolds, Haley Stallings and husband, Matt; three great grandchildren, Ella Gregory, Landon Stallings, Tanner Stallings; her loving friend, Ruby Layman; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday, March 18, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Deacons Kevin Reynolds and Kenneth Reynolds officiating. Burial will follow in the Stateline Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
