Patrick Henry Community College (PHCC) is partnering with regional employers, including Piedmont Mechanical, Blair Construction, and Frith Construction, to launch a new workforce training program in construction trades.
The first class covers all of the basics required for students to earn the National Center for Construction Education & Research (NCCER) Core Introductory Craft Skills credential – an industry-recognized national credential that may open doors to high-paying careers.
This course will also prepare students to continue their education if they desire to further hone their craft.
Next spring, PHCC will offer Carpentry, Plumbing and HVAC classes which will be the next step for NCCER students.
Classes meet on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6 to 9:30 p.m., beginning on October 2.
The total cost of the class is $1,098, but PHCC has grant funding which can pay for nearly all of the cost of the training.
