Sovah Health announces that Sheranda Gunn-Nolan, DO will be appointed Chief Medical Officer (CMO), effective July 27. As CMO, Gunn-Nolan will lead the medical staff at Sovah Health and work across both campuses with efforts focused on improving and supporting the delivery of high-quality patient care.

Gunn-Nolan is not a new face to Sovah Health. She joined one of our earliest classes as a resident physician in our Graduate Medical Education Program and stayed on staff as a Hospitalist after graduating. She currently serves as the local Program Director for Apogee Hospitalist Physicians and was recognized in 2019 by Apogee as the Program Director of the year for all their hospital medicine services across the country.
She has been a leader in Danville’s COVID-19 unit as being the first physician taking care of our COVID-19 patients and helping establish our protocols for safety of our employees, physicians, and patients. For the last several years, Dr. Gunn-Nolan has worked to improve patient care initiatives, safety initiatives, quality initiatives, sepsis, central line infections CAUTI, HAUTI, and many others. “With her hands-on experience in healthcare and dedication to quality and safety, Dr. Gunn-Nolan will ensure Sovah Health continues to be the leading healthcare provider in our regions,” said Teresa Pruitt, Market Director of Quality.
Gunn-Nolan is board-certified in Internal Medicine and has practiced at Sovah Health for 8 years. She earned her medical degree from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (Suwannee, GA), completed her Internal Medicine Residency at Sovah Health (Danville, VA), and an executive Fellowship in Physician Leadership at Duke/Lifepoint Physician Leadership Institute with CTI (Durham, NC). Dr. Gunn-Nolan currently serves as a member of our Board of Trustees, Assistant Clinical Professor Family Medicine at Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine, Assistant Clinical Professor Family Medicine at Liberty University College of Osteopathic Medicine, and serves on numerous committees here at Sovah Health including Utilization Review Committee Chair, Cardiovascular Services Committee Chair, Sepsis Committee, among others. She maintains several professional memberships to include American College of Physicians, American College of Osteopathic Internists, and American Osteopathic Association.

In addition to her new role, Dr. Gunn-Nolan will continue as Hospitalist Program Director and Physician for the Danville campus and care for our patients that need acute care services.
