Although the Nov. 5 election is months away, some potential candidates have picked up packets from Patrick County Registrar Susan Taylor’s office.
Several incumbents also have announced they will seek reelection.
Seats on the Patrick County School Board and the Patrick County Board of Supervisors are open in three districts, Taylor said of Blue Ridge, Mayo River and Peters Creek districts.
Constitutional offices on the ballot will include Patrick County Sheriff, Patrick County Commonwealth’s Attorney, Patrick County Treasurer and Patrick County Commissioner of the Revenue.
Three director positions also are open on the Soil and Water Board, she said, adding those positions are not elected by district, but represent the county as a whole.
Of those currently serving on the Patrick County Board of Supervisors, two said they will seek reelection.
Karl Weiss said he will seek reelection to the Blue Ridge District post. If successful in his reelection bid, it will be his fourth term.
Lock Boyce said he will seek reelection to the Mayo River District post he currently holds. If successful, it will be his fourth term.
Rickie Fulcher said he does not plan to seek reelection to his current seat as representative for the Peters Creek District.
Among the school board, two members will not seek reelection: Annie Hylton and Michelle Day have said they will not seek reelection to their seats, respectively the Peters Creek District and the Mayo River District.
Ronnie Terry, of the Blue Ridge District, said he is “seriously considering” a reelection bid to a fourth term. He plans to formalize his decision soon.
Others who plan to be on the November ballot include:
Incumbent Commonwealth’s Attorney, Stephanie Vipperman, who said she will seek a fourth term. Incumbent Sheriff Dan Smith said he will seek reelection to a fourth term in office. (See related story.)
Other incumbent constitutional officers, including Treasurer Sandra Stone and Commissioner of Revenue Janet H. Rorrer, also will seek reelection.
The deadline to file to be on the ballot is June 11 at 7 p.m., Taylor said.
