JENNIFER MAE MARTIN OVERBY
Jennifer Mae Martin Overby, age 43, of Lawsonville, N.C., passed away Tuesday, February 5, 2019, at Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home. She was born on January 12, 1976, in Patrick County. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Denzer James and Georgia Mae Underwood Griffith; paternal grandparents, Henry Eugene Martin, Sr. and Sarah Eunice Lewis Martin; and two cousins, Paul Vipperman and Michael Griffith. She was a member of Collinstown Presbyterian Church. She will be remembered as a woman with strong faith, who carried a smile on her face and was courageous no matter what life threw at her, enjoyed life to the fullest, and was an inspiration to all her knew her. She was an adoring mama to her beloved son, Joseph, a devoted wife, and loving daughter.
Surviving are her husband, Keith Bradley Overby of the home; a son, Joseph Bradley Overby of the home; parents, Delmas Leon Martin and Linda Gail Griffith Martin of Stuart; father-in-law and mother-in-law, John Lester Overby and Mary Lois Holt Overby of Lawsonville, N.C.; and many treasured cousins and friends.
Funeral services were held Friday, February 8, 2019, at Crossroads Baptist Church with Pastors Shaun Draughn and Andy Pack officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to www.moodyfuneralservices.com.

CARLENE SHULER SAXTON
Carlene Gilbert Shuler Saxton, 85, of Orange, died January 29, 2019, at Dogwood Village Assisted Living. A native of Somerset in Orange County, she was the daughter of the late Carson Amherst Shuler and Hazel Gilbert Shuler. She was recently preceded in death by her beloved husband of 65 years, Harry Thomas Saxton, Jr., on November 11, 2018, and earlier by her son, Jon Gilbert Saxton.
Carlene was born October 20, 1933. She attended schools in Orange County and was a member of the 1951 graduation class of Orange High School. She attended Westhampton College of the University of Richmond for two years. She and her husband, Harry Saxton, were married in 1953 at “Milford,” her parents’ home in Somerset. After her marriage, she transferred to the University of Virginia and was a 1955 graduate of the Curry School of Education with a B.S. in Elementary Education. Starting her career in Orange County, she taught at Grymes Memorial School. Later she taught at Critz School in Patrick County, and Southampton Elementary School in Chesterfield County (now Richmond). Returning to Orange County in 1970, they lived in Unionville from where she completed her career in the Orange County School System. Her last 19 years before retirement were spent teaching fifth grade at Lightfoot Elementary School.
Among her community activities, she particularly enjoyed her membership in the Rapid Ann Garden Club and St. Thomas Episcopal Church.
Survivors include two sons, Harry Thomas Saxton III of Lynchburg, Michael Shuler Saxton and wife, May Crenshaw of Orange, seven grandchildren: John of Fla., Erin of DC, Rachel of Va., Sarah and husband Mike of Va., Michael and wife Shabiba of N.J., Thomas of Wash., and Maria Saxton of Va.; and one great grandchild, Virginia May Millett.
CHARMAINE JULIETTER TERRY VAUGHT ATKINS
Charmaine Juliette Terry Vaught Atkins, age 85, of Claudville, passed away Sunday, February 10, 2019, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. She was born in Patrick County on August 25, 1933, to the late Rodney Charlton Terry and Mattie Irene Epperson Terry. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clinton Atkins; a daughter-in-law, Eva Vaught; and a stepson, Bruce Atkins. She enjoyed her nursing career of over 50 years, was a member of the Red Hats Society, and volunteered with the Patrick County Chapter of the American Cancer Society, serving in many roles for several years.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Edie Vaught of Stuart; two step daughters and sons-in-law, Sandye and John Wallick of Nashville, Tenn., Mary and Bob “Ace” Klaver of Milwaukee, Wis.; a step daughter-in-law, Ellen Atkins of Eau Claire, Wis.; two grandchildren, Kenneth Vaught and wife, Vanessa, Melissa Vaught and partner, Eugene Day; ten step grandchildren, Kirstin, David, Jackie, Jessie, Becca, Annie, Courtney, Ashlee, Haley, Kristin; thirteen great-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Anthony and Estelle Terry of Ararat; a sister and brother-in-law, Athajean and Franklin Martin of Stuart; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 14, 2019, at 2 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Pastor Terry Martin and Pastor Buford Jessup officiating. Burial will be in the Red Bank Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the funeral home. NANNIE SUE MILLS BIGGS
Nannie Sue Mills Biggs, 98, of Spencer, died on Monday, February 11, 2019, at Blue Ridge Therapy Connection in Stuart. She was born in Patrick County on April 1, 1920, to the late Maggie Mae Slate Mills and Sam H Mills. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Robert T Biggs, one daughter; Nancy B. Stewart, three sons; Robert Wayne Biggs, David Lee Biggs, Infant Son, three sisters; Elizabeth Plaster, Lula Amos, Mary Nance, five brothers; Billy Mills, Robert Mills, Marvin Mills, Junior Mills and Shelburn Mills.
She attended Pleasant Grove Primitive Baptist Church, worked on their farm, cooked for family and friends and enjoyed supper at Moorefield Store Fire Department.
Surviving are two sisters; Kathleen Moore of Lawsonville, N.C., Roxie Belcher of Martinsville; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, February 14, 2019, at Pleasant Grove Primitive Baptist Church with Elder LaRay Smith officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
