LINFORD BELCHER
Linford ‘Red’ Belcher, age 77, of Laurel Fork, passed away on February 1, 2018, surrounded by family and loved ones.
He was born in Patrick County on December 6, 1940, and was a son of the late Wesley Davis Belcher and Fannie Harris Belcher. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, David Dorn Belcher.
He attended Conners’ View Baptist Church and was a member of The Hillsville Lodge #193.
Surviving are his wife, Lillian McGrady Belcher of the home; one son, David Len Belcher of Meadows of Dan; one daughter and son-in-law, Donna Belcher Dickens and husband Darrell of Fancy Gap; one stepson, Floyd William Penson III of Siloam, N.C.; one grandson, Lee Quesinberry and wife Dawn; and five great-grandchildren, Hanna, Cody, Brandy, Carley and Wesley.
Funeral services were held Sunday, February 4 at Conners’ View Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Edward Bowman officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Masonic rites were performed by Hillsville Lodge #193.

LELIA T. BOWLES
Lelia Lizzie Turner Bowles, age 96, of Patrick Springs, passed away on February 1, 2018 at her home.
She was born in Patrick County on February 12, 1921, to the late Leonard T. Turner and Martha Susan Texas Adams Turner. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Everett W. Bowles; a sister, Hestell Foley; and three brothers, Nesco, Edwin, and Elmo Turner.
Lelia loved quilting, gardening and cooking; she always had a meal prepared for anyone who came to visit. She was an avid bird watcher. She was a longtime member of Pleasant View Baptist Church and an active member of the Hilltoppers.
She is survived by three children, Nancy B. Barrow of Martinsville, Neva Bowles of Willis and Glenn A. Bowles of Bassett; four grandchildren, Jason Barrow, Katie Neddenriep, Slade Mankins and Sara Alderman; four great-grandchildren; Breanna Torres, Jacob Barrow, Rachael Alderman and Luke Neddenriep; one sister, Velda Handy of Patrick Springs; one brother and sister-in-law, Junior and Shelby Turner of Stuart; a special niece and caregiver, Carol Janosko of Patrick Springs; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was held on Sunday, February 4 at Pleasant View Baptist Church with Pastor Rick Anderson officiating. Burial was in the Adams Family Cemetery.

ANNA M. CLARK
Anna Marie Clark, age 85, of Stuart and formerly of Richmond, Ind., and Mt. Juliet, Tenn., passed away at her home on January 30, 2018.
She was born on August 21, 1932, to the late D.T. “Doc” and Millie Ann Demps, who lived in Sparta, Tenn. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Nancy Ann; and ten brothers and sisters: Reed Demps, Jessie Demps, Minnie Robinson, Bertie Henry, Jewel Bean, all who were from Sparta; Robert (R.L.) Demps, Lela Mae Bumbalough, Edith Katherine Barr, Ruth Bain, who all lived of Richmond; and Ruby Fieinning of Muncie, Ind. Marie retired from the real estate profession in Richmond , Ind., and was a member of the Cloyd’s Presbyterian Church in Mount Juliet.
She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Dudley Clark of the home; her son, Jeffrey Clark of Stuart; two granddaughters, Jessica Clark of Columbus, Oh., and Sarah Clark of Stuart; two sister-in-laws, Lucille Demps and Betty Demps, both of Sparta, Tenn.; along with many nieces and nephews. Services were conducted by Thurman Funeral Home in Sparta with the Rev. Mike Reese officiating. Burial was in the Upper Cherry Creek Cemetery in Sparta. Local arrangements were by Norris Funeral Services, Stuart.
JOHN M. COBLER
John Milton (Johnnie) Cobler, 88, of Martinsville, passed away peacefully, Sunday, February 4, 2018 at Blue Ridge Nursing Home of Stuart.
He was born on May 1, 1930, in Forsyth County, N.C., to the late Jessie Owen Cobler and Lillian Eggleston Cobler. He was also predeceased by a sister, Eleane Cobler Overstreet.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Cobler; three sons, Merrell Johnnie Cobler, Mark Issac Cobler and wife Tammy and Matthew Aren Cobler; a daughter, Cathy Martin and husband Thomas Martin; two stepdaughters, Lou Barnes and husband David, and Sue Mason and husband Bill; seven grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and his sisters, Dorothy Cobler Jessee and Irene Cobler Mitchell.
He served in the U.S. Army and worked for Hampco Industries with 42 years of outstanding and dedicated service. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
The family is thankful for the care of the nurses and doctors at Blue Ridge Nursing Home in Stuart and the caregivers at his home, Dona Whitfield, Stephanie Hairston, Charmaine Lea, Serita Manns and Floyd Warren.
A graveside service was held Tuesday, February 6, at Roselawn Burial Park.

Edna Williams Hylton, age 82, of Stuart, passed away on Monday, February 5, 2018, at her daughter’s home.
She was born on July 3, 1935, to the late Benjamin Williams and Annie Hall Williams. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Grey Hylton; two sisters, Pauline Stegall and Lucy Terry; and a brother, Dillard Williams.
She was a member of Dobyns Primitive Baptist Church and had retired from DuPont after many years of service. She truly enjoyed gardening, basketball, bowling, flat-footing, smiling, laughing and having a good time. Her sense of humor and love for family will always be remembered.
She is survived by her daughter, Vicky Godfrey and husband Tom of Danville; two grandsons, Ben Godfrey and fiancé Julie and Brad Godfrey and wife Jamie; five great-grandchildren, Caitlyn Haley, Skylar Godfrey, Zaliah Godfrey, Bradley Godfrey, and Grey Godfrey; three sisters, Onie Vaughn, Betty Jean Conner, and Joyce Belcher, all of Stuart; one brother, CD Williams and wife Mary of Stuart, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 8 at 1 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Stuart with Elder Gene Hogan and Tim McGrady officiating. Burial will follow in the Maple Shade Cemetery in Laurel Fork.
The family will receive friends one hour and a half prior to the services at the funeral home.

Lucille O’Dell Cox Lawless, 97, of Martinsville, died on February 2, 2018, at Morehead Hospital in Eden, N.C.
She was born in Patrick County on February 27, 1920, and was a daughter of the late Ernest and Texas Martin O’Dell. She was also preceded in death by her husbands, Joe Cox, James Grogan and Hobert Lawless; a son, Wayne Cox; brothers, Alvin, Cecil, Harry, and Lemley O’Dell; sisters, Goldie Hodge, Gladys Cardwell, Velda Hall, Mamie Coleman, and Dorothy Woods; and a granddaughter, Melissa “Missy” Joe Hardie.
She attended One Accord Baptist Church and New Life Community Church. She had many jobs over the years including, driving a van for HCP&R, and working in the Henry County School cafeterias, Jobbers for 40 years, Lacy’s and Pannill’s.
She is survived by her daughter, Rebecca “Becky” Hardie of Ridgeway; stepsons, Fred Lawless of Tazewell, and Phillip Lawless of Maryland; and her special caregivers, Mike and Kathy Lawless of Martinsville; a special daughter-in-law, Joan F. Conner of Martinsville; a grandson, Mitchell Wayne Cox of Critz; ten stepgrandchildren; and four stepgreat-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Her funeral service was held on Monday, February 5 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Roselawn Funeral Home with the Rev. Phillip Woods and the Rev. Terry Knighten officiating the service. Burial was in the Mountain View Cemetery in Ridgeway.

She was born in Carroll County on June 14, 1950, to the late Isaac Lester and Ida Marie Gwyn Easter. She was also preceded in death by a grandchild, Keegan Meadows; sisters, Etta Mae Farris and Ella Hawks; brothers, Dennis and Eugene “Gene” Easter.

Georgia Marie Lawson Shelton, age 91, of Danbury, N.C., and formerly of Stuart, passed away on January 31, 2018, at Forsyth Medical Center.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend.
She was born in Stokes County, N.C., on May 2, 1926. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Goode Shelton; her parents, Willie Everett and Martha Jane McHone Lawson; and a brother, Billie A. Lawson.
She is survived by a daughter, Kathy Young and husband Randy; a granddaughter, Jill Rininger and husband Derrick, and a great-granddaughter, Addison Rininger, all of Danbury; a sister-in-law, Jane Moorefield Shelton of Stuart; numerous nieces and nephews and her faithful furbaby, Daisy.

She was born in Patrick County on January 7, 1938, to the late James Aubrey Shelton and the late Martha Clark Shelton. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by an infant son; brothers, Curtis Shelton and Melvin Shelton; and sisters, Marie Stone, Gladys Fansler and Shirley Martin.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Glenford Sigmon; brother, Alvis Shelton; sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Shelton and Gaye Sigmon; brother-in-law, Coy Sigmon and wife Marie; and many nieces, nephews and other loving family members.
The funeral service was held Saturday, February 3 at Union Primitive Baptist Church in Stuart. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Wanda Sue Spence, age 64, of Patrick Springs, passed away Tuesday, January 30, 2018, at the home of her daughter.
She was born on July 31,1953, to the late Woodrow Hamm and Lois Howell Hamm. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred H. Spence Sr.
Surviving are her son, Freddy Spence; a daughter and son-in-law, Brandy Spence and Alexander Quesenberry, all of Stuart; four grandchildren, Kayla Vaughn, Cody Spence, Eve Quesenberry and Noah Quesenberry; a special grandchild, Colton Martin; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She was born in Surry County, N.C., on January 31, 1933, and was a daughter of the late Coy Leonard and Essie Faye Sykes. She was retired from Bassett Furniture Company.
