STEPHEN MARKS ANTHONY
Stephen Marks Anthony, 69, of Patrick Springs, died on Tuesday July 10, 2018, at Hospice Home of Rockingham County in Reidsville, N.C. He was born on December 29, 1948, in Patrick County to the late Priscillia Marks Anthony and Penn Alvin Anthony Sr.
He was a member of Critz Baptist Church in Critz and was a loving father and grandfather.
Surviving are three sons, Stephen Marks Anthony Jr, Kevin Wade Anthony, both of Patrick Springs, Christopher Brian Anthony and wife Brittany of Collinsville; one sister, Kathryn Cook and husband Sonny of Montana; two brothers, Penn Alvin Anthony, Jr of Martinsville, James Anthony and wife Frankie of Patrick Springs; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a special friend and care giver, Kathy Arrington.
The funeral was held on Saturday, July 14, 2018, at Norris Funeral Services Chapel in Stuart with Pastor Alan Vass officiating. Burial was in Critz Baptist Church cemetery. SAMUEL BROWN
Samuel Brown (aka Yellow Jacket), age 69, of Stuart, passed away Sunday, July 15, 2018, at his home. He was born on May 13, 1949, and was preceded in death by his first wife, Adell Burt Brown; two step-sons, Santee Drew and Howard Martin; his step-father, Lonnie Thomas Urquhart, Sr., and a sister, Shirley D. Urquhart Willis. He was a member of the Church of All Nations in Spring Grove. He was a truck driver for over 40 years and worked for Lawson Trucking and Burgess Trucking.
He is survived by his wife, Annie Brown of the home; his children, Shalichia Brown of Florida, Tovelta Baines (Curtis) of Virginia, Margaret Stephenson (Samuel) of Florida, Rhonda Flowers (Jason) of Virginia, Samuel Brown, Jr. of Virginia, Latoria Reddix of Mississippi, Ammie Brown of Virginia, Eric Garrett of Virginia and Sherry Brown of Virginia; 22 grandchildren; his step-children, Bernice Matthews, Victoria Parham (Pilot), Sonya Minga (Lewis), George Drew, Lisa Braddock (Jeffery), Steve Martin (Lynn), Jeffrey Martin, Dwayne Martin (Rhonda), Angela Martin, Charles Martin and Ricky Martin; 41 step-grandchildren; his mother, Ida Louise Brown Urquhart of Franklin; his brothers and sisters, Raymond Brown, Susa Brown Council, Abraham Urquhart, Lonnie Urquhart, Larry Urquhart, Mable Urquhart and Joe Urquhart, all of Virginia.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 21, 2018, at 1 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Pastor Victoria Parham officiating. Burial will be private. GARY HATCHER
Gary Hatcher age 61, of Patrick Springs, passed away Sunday, July 15, 2018, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born in Virginia on February 8, 1957, to the late David Clarence Hatcher, Jr. and Madeline Puckett Hatcher. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Janet Elder. Gary faithfully served as a corpsman with the United States Navy. Later on he worked as a C.N.A. at various hospitals, and worked as a sub-contractor with Nationwide Homes.
Surviving are two brothers, Daryl Hatcher of Collinsville, and Lane Hatcher of Stuart; nieces and nephew, Jessica, Sabrina and Jeremy; many cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 19, 2018, at 2 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with the Rev. Kenneth Terry officiating. Burial will follow in the Puckett Family Cemetery on Bent Road in Meadows of Dan. Military Rites will be conducted by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Guard. CLINTON D. MARTIN
Clinton D. Martin, age 75, of Patrick Springs, passed away Thursday, July 12, 2018, at his home. He was born in Patrick County on November 28, 1942, to the late Randolph and Annie Martin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Dent Martin; one daughter, Laurie Ann Reynolds; one son, James Robert “J.R.” Martin; a grandson, Adam Wayne Martin; and two brothers, Randolph “Tom” Martin and James “Roy” Martin. He worked at Bassett Chair.
Surviving are one daughter, Tracy Martin and fiancé, Billy Brooks of Patrick Springs; one son, Danny Wayne Martin of Bassett; seven grandchildren, David Martin, Ethan Brooks, Steven Brooks, Braiden Brooks, Bentley Brooks, Lydia Brooks, Jacob Martin; two sisters, Frances Hopkins of Bassett, Shirley Greer of Bassett; one brother, Paul Martin of Patrick Springs; and several nieces and nephews.

OLIN HOMER PENDLETON
Olin Homer Pendleton, age 78 of Stuart, passed away Sunday, July 15, 2018, at his home. He was born in Patrick County on June 18, 1940, to the late Homer and Ninna Hall Pendleton. He retired from DuPont in Martinsville and had volunteered with the Fairystone Volunteer Fire Department for 40 years. He was a loving and kind husband, father, grandfather, neighbor and friend. He loved Sunday afternoon drives, especially on the Blue Ridge Parkway.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Shirley Martin Pendleton of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Susan P. and Mark Hopkins of Westminster, Maryland, Angela P. and Kevin Phelon of Glen Allen, Virginia; four grandchildren, Elizabeth and Collin Hopkins, Kelsey and Kaitlin Phelon.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 19, 2018, at 11 a.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Pastor Chris Foley officiating. Burial is in Ross Harbour United Methodist Church Cemetery. GEORGIA H. ROOP
Georgia H. Roop, 96, of Stuart, died on Wednesday, July 11, 2018, at Blue Ridge Therapy Connection in Stuart. She was born on July 28, 1921, in Patrick County to the late Carrie Martin Gilley and Emmett Hughes Gilley.
She was a member of Faith Fellowship Church in Bassett. She worked in textile as a spinner in Fieldale.
Surviving are two daughters, Beatrice Carolyn Bowles and Frances Jean Ramey and husband David, both of Patrick Springs; three sons; Marshall Stanley Roop of Spencer, Harvey Harold Roop and wife Darlene, David Bryant Roop both of Patrick Springs; one sister, Polly Roop of Critz; one brother, Johnnie Blaine Gilley and wife Hattie Mae of Danville; eleven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
The funeral was held on Friday, July 13, 2018, at Faith Fellowship Church with Pastor Freddie Bonds officiating. Burial was in the Ferris Roop Cemetery, Cassell Lane in Bassett. MADELINE KOGER SHIVELY
Madeline Koger Shively, age 97, of Bassett passed away on Friday, July 13, 2018, at Stanleytown Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born in Henry County on February 8, 1921, to the late Eulas Lee Koger and Annie Mae Via Koger. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey D. Shively; four children, Gerald Shively, Donald Shively, Paul Shively, and Rebecca Wright; and two sisters, Elaine Goard and Elner Joyce. She will be remembered as having a great work ethic, devoting herself to her family and loving the Lord.
She is survived by one daughter, Bernice Setliff; four grandchildren, Brian Setliff, Melissa Shively, Kevin Wright, and Sara Wright; five great grandchildren, Chloe Setliff, Kolby Wright, Madeline Wright, Alexis Collins, and Gracie Dalton; and several nieces and nephews.

JOHN VARLEY WILLIS, JR
John Varley Willis, Jr, age 80, of Roanoke, passed away on July 14, 2018, at Avante Nursing Home in Roanoke. He was born in Floyd County on June 11, 1938, to the late John Varley Willis and Sylvia Sutphin Willis. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Delphine Goode Willis; and an infant brother, Nelson Willis. He had attended Jack’s Creek Primitive Baptist Church in Woolwine and Mt. Olive Primitive Baptist Church in Roanoke. He had received a degree in electrical engineering from Cleveland Technical School and retired from General Electric in Salem. J.V. received numerous awards and accolades during his forty year tenure at GE. The family would like to thank the staff at Avante Nursing Home in Roanoke and the hospice providers with MSA Corporation.
He is survived by three sisters, Gueindoline Hall and husband, Wayne of Roanoke, Velda Willis of Roanoke, and Mavis Newman of Daleville; two brothers, Carlin Willis and wife, Madeline of Lynchburg and Coleon Willis and wife, Gail of Fayetteville, North Carolina; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday (today), July 18, 2018, at 2 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Elder Dolph Painter officiating. Burial will be in Jack’s Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home Wednesday afternoon.
