MONNIE H. BURGESS
Monnie Delean Hughes Burgess age 94, of Monroe, Ga., and formerly of Stuart, passed away on July 24, 2017, at her daughter’s home.
She was born on February 13, 1923 in Davy, W.Va., to the late Oscar A. and Annie Elener Craig Pendleton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Major Patrick Jewell Hughes and Woodrow Frelin Burgess; a grandson, John Daniel Phillips; and two sisters, Wilda Pendleton Vipperman and Thelma Pendleton Cardwell.
She loved to read, garden, sew, knit, crochet, quilt, entertain family and guests and travel. She was of the Primitive Baptist faith for over 50 years. She loved the Lord and worshipped Him openly by playing her organ, piano, and singing. She was a realtor for the R. N. Green Company in Orange City, Fla. Monnie was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend to many.Surviving are two sons, Patrick J. Hughes Jr. and wife Diana of Springfield and Kenneth T. Hughes and wife Candace of Lebanon, Tenn.; two daughters Treva D. Phillips of Stuart and Beverly H. Siler and husband Jim of Monroe; one sister Janice Pendleton Newman and husband Garvin of Orange City; 12 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 27 at 11 a.m. at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Stuart with Pastor Mark Wright and speaker Ronnie Owens officiating. Burial will immediately follow in the Hughes family cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

FOY J. FULCHER
Foy J. Fulcher, age 69, of Patrick Springs, passed away Saturday, July 22, 2017, at Pioneer Community Hospital in Stuart.
He was born in Forsyth County, N.C., on September 12, 1947. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Benton Fulcher and Estelle Trent Fulcher.
He had worked for International Paper for 25 years and retired from Nylstar. He was a member of High Point Baptist Church and was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
Surviving are his wife of 41 years, Sue Wagoner Fulcher of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Laurie Fulcher of Stuart; two daughters and a son-in-law, Jennifer and Trey Cox of Madison, N.C., and Cindy Fulcher and fiancé Thomas Moles of Patrick Springs; five grandchildren, Madi Heath, Arlen Fulcher, Wesley Fulcher, Kendall Epperly and Riley Epperly; two sisters, Iva Lou Edwards of Pooler, Ga., and Lucille Sechrist of Erwing, N.C.; a special cousin, Margie Quesenberry of Hillsville; and numerous other family members.
Funeral services will be held today (Wednesday, July 26) at 2 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with the Rev. Wayne Moore officiating. Burial will follow in the Patrick Memorial Gardens.

HARBOUR L. GILLEY
Harbour Lee Gilley, 87, of Spencer, passed away on Sunday, July 23, 2017, at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County.
He was born on May 20, 1930 in Patrick County and was a son of the late Jeff Gilley and Emma Craig Gilley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Sarah Holliman; and a brother, Bill Gilley.He was a member and former deacon of Stone Memorial Christian Church. He worked for Pulaski Furniture, Coca-Cola Bottling Company and retired from the City of Martinsville under public works.
He was a charter member at Horsepasture District Volunteer Fire Department and served as chaplain of the fire department. In addition to his positions at the fire department he also led their top fund-raising effort. He was also a former member of the Horsepasture Ruritan Club
In addition to his other jobs he also worked at Howell Funeral Home, Stone Funeral Home, Tomlinson Funeral Home, and Evans Real Estate and Auction Company. He touched many lives, was loved by all, and he never met a stranger.Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Sue Hylton Gilley; one daughter, Victoria Hankins (Tori) and husband William of Martinsville; sisters, Nancy Biggs and husband Bob of Roanoke, Carlyne Bondurant and husband Howard of Snow Creek, and Lois Turner of Ridgeway; one brother, Hamon Gilley and wife Peggy of Collinsville; brother-in-law Tommy Holliman of Ridgeway; grandchildren Levi and Caleb Hankins; several nieces and nephews, and many special friends. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 27 at Stone Memorial Christian Church with Tim Wood and Lawrence Harris officiating. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight (Wednesday, July 26) at Stone Memorial Christian Church. AMOS B. MORRISON
Amos Bailey Morrison, age 87, of Stuart, passed away Friday, July 21, 2017, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C.
He was born in Patrick County on December 1, 1929 to the late Henry Lee Morrison and Fanny Belcher Morrison. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Yolanda Dee Morrison; a daughter, Meredith Morrison; a son, Timothy Morrison; a son-in-law, Bruce McKinney; four sisters, Annie Pilson, Minnie Mangrum, Ruth Bennett, Eva DeHart; and one brother, James Edward Morrison.
He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He devoted his life to being a servant of the Lord for over 65 years. He was an interim pastor at Fairystone Baptist Church and also ministered throughout Patrick and surrounding counties. He also went on several international mission trips. He was a longtime member of Fairystone Baptist Church and a member of Gideons International.
Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Elizabeth and Ray Shope of Harrisburg, Pa., and Cynthia and Rob Dunham of Lansing, Mich.; one son, Bailey Morrison of Stuart; a daughter-in-law, Nicole Morrison of High Point, N.C.; 11 grandchildren, Bailey Morrison Jr., Ann Morrison, Jennifer Cox and husband Bear, Eric McKinney and wife Kim, David Morrison and wife Tamara, Adam Morrison and wife Britney, Thomas Dunham, Parker John Hayes, Shane Salcedo and wife Kayla, Ana Salcedo, Joey Salcedo; four great-grandchildren, Olivia Morrison, Bennett Morrison, Kaden Salcedo and Madilyn Salcedo; two sisters, Marie Brink of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and Nancy Martin of Laurel Fork; one brother, Claude Morrison of Williamsburg; and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held today (Wednesday, July 26) at 12 p.m. at Fairystone Baptist Church with Pastor Kriss Foley officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites by the Patrick County Veterans’ Memorial Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

SAMMY M. TURNER
Sammy McKinley Turner, 73, of Ridgeway, passed away Wednesday, July 19, 2017, at his home.
He was born October 31, 1943 in Patrick County to the late Thomas McKinley and Nannie Lawson Turner. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Dollie Thacker, Estelle Hodges, Minnie Cox, and Arbutus Smith; and three brothers, Dexter Turner, Noah Turner, and Roy Turner.
He was self-employed as a truck driver for 45 years and owner/operator of F & S Trucking.
He is survived by his wife, Frances Pickurel Turner; one daughter, Penny Turner Daniel (Tom); two sons, Jonathan M. Turner (Gina), and Brian Turner (Tammy); one sister, Annie M. Pickurel; one brother, John Ed Turner; three grandsons; and a great-granddaughter.
The funeral was held Sunday, July 23, at Wright Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Dan Schelling officiating. Burial was private.
