ALICE K. ASHBY
Alice Keen Stegall Ashby, 96, of Martinsville, passed away Sunday, July 2, 2017.
She was born January 18, 1921 to the late Joseph Daniel Keen and Mattie Clay Keen. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, George Everette Stegall; her second husband, Rev. John Junior Ashby; sisters, Frances K. Roach, Edna K. Barker, Belva K. Ashby, and Viola K. McMillan; and brothers, J.D. Keen, Everett Keen, and Jesse Keen. She was a member of Chatham Heights Baptist Church and later was baptized in the Primitive Baptist faith. She is survived by her daughter, Linda S. Lavinder and husband Carl of Martinsville; son, James Irvin Stegall and wife Myra of Stuart; stepdaughters, Peggy Barnes and Linda A. Secrest, both of Martinsville; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and four step-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, July 6, at Norris Funeral Services, Martinsville Chapel with Dr. Joey McNeill officiating. Visitation will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will be at Roselawn Burial Park. IRIS K. BOYD
Iris Keith Boyd, 86, of Meadows of Dan, passed away at her home on Saturday, July 1, 2017.
She was born in Floyd County on August 11, 1930 to the late Una Ray and Ida Ethel Boyd Keith. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband; Elmer Guy Boyd; two sisters, Chloe Bowyer and Peggy Belcher; and five brothers, Oliver, Charlie, Delmar, Shirley and McCoy Keith.
She had retired from J.P. Stevens in Stuart.
Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law; Barry and Susie Boyd of Check; three brothers, Wayne Keith of Stuart, Larry Keith of Vesta, and Gene Keith and wife Arlene of Ararat; a sister-in-law, Sylvia Keith of Georgia; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held today (Wednesday, July 5) at 11 a.m. in the George Boyd Family Cemetery with Pastor Jerry Hylton officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Vesta Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 911, Meadows of Dan, VA 24120 or to Mountain Valley Hospice, 1477 Carrolton Pike, Hillsville, VA 24343.

MELVIN R. PLASTERS
Melvin Ray Plasters, 81, of Ridgeway, passed away on Friday, June 30, 2017, at his home.
He was born August 24, 1935 in Patrick County and was a son of the late Samuel and Jessie Howell Plasters. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Donald Plasters; sisters, Muriel Hughes and Helen Plasters; brothers, Samuel Plasters Jr., Howard Plasters, Albert Plasters, Ralph Plasters, Randolph Plasters and James Plasters.
He was a truck driver for Cardinal Freight for 40 years.Surviving are his wife, Mary Hatcher Plasters; daughters, Kathy Plasters Sanchez (Reyes) and Connie Powell; sons, Dennis Plasters, and Thomas Plasters; sisters, Dorothy DeHart (Melvin), Sadie Spencer, Betty Spence, and Lucille Hopkins; and brother, McCoy Plasters (Barbara); seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.The visitation will be today (Wednesday, July 5) from 5 to 6 p.m. at Wright Funeral Service Chapel. The memorial service will follow at 6 p.m. with Kelly Ratcliff officiating. BETTY I. YOUNG
Betty Lou Ingram Young, 76, of Stuart, passed away on Friday, June 30, 2017, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Patrick County on September 2, 1940 to the late Charlie Ingram and the late Nancy Nolen Ingram. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by brothers, Henry Ingram and Elmer Ingram.
She is survived by her husband, Harry Young; children, Harry D. “Butch” Young Jr., Shelbra J. “Penny” Young, Wayne D. Young, Steven R. Young and wife Sherry, Tammie L. Young, and Frankie D. Young; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Stanley and husband Noah; and brother, Paul Ingram and wife Juanita.
The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. to noon today (Wednesday, July 5) at Bassett Funeral Service Chapel where a funeral service will be conducted at noon with the Rev. Terry Hairston officiating. Burial will follow the funeral service at Penn Family Cemetery.
