JAMES R. BEASLEY II
James Richard “Beasley” Beasley II, age 38, of Claudville, passed away Tuesday, February 28, 2017, at his home.
He was born in Forsyth County, N.C., on December 13, 1978. He was preceded in death by his mother, Bonita Moser; a daughter, Erica Nichole Belcher; and his paternal grandfather, James Glenn Beasley.
He was of the Baptist faith, and had been saved at Trinity Baptist Church. He loved softball, his softball family, football and music of all genres.
He is survived by his wife, Denice Lawless Beasley of the home; two sons, James Richard “Trey” Beasley III of the home and Kevin Shane Belcher of Stuart; two daughters, Ariana Gail Beasley of Patrick Springs and Megan Dawn Teetor and her husband Caleb Tyler Teetor of Thomasville, N.C.; a granddaughter, McKenzie Grace Teetor; his father and stepmother, James Richard Beasley Sr. and Glenda Beasley of Dry Pond; one sister, Sarah Reynolds of Critz; two stepsisters, Crystal King of Arizona and Dee Padegimas of Connecticut; and several nieces and nephews who were all special to him.
Funeral services were held Sunday, March 5 at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Pastors Chad Harrison and James Houchins officiating. Burial was private.

DEBORAH A. BOWMAN
Deborah Ann Bowman, age 44, of Claudville, died Tuesday, February 28, 2017, at Forsyth Medical Center.
She was born in Surry County, N.C., on February 21, 1973 to Barbara Ann Bowman. She was also preceded in death by her grandparents, Robert, Sr. and Mabel Jessup Bowman.
She was a retired dispatcher with Patrick County Sheriff’s Office and was also an announcer on WHEO radio in Stuart.
Surviving are her mother and stepfather, Barbara Ann and Leonard Bishop.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday at Moody Funeral Home Chapel of Mount Airy, N.C., by the Rev. Monte Mitchell. Burial was in Unity Church Cemetery.

REBECCA G. CONNER
Rebecca Gale Conner, age 53, of Stuart, passed away Monday, February 27, 2017, at her home.
She was born in Patrick County on June 5, 1963, and was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Allen Harbour.
She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Richard Hill Conner of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, April and Kevin Wright of Stuart; a grandson, Mason Wright; her mother and stepfather, Fern Belcher Soyars and Edward Soyars of Stuart; one brother and sister-in-law, Ronnie and Linda Harbour of Woolwine; one stepsister and brother-in-law, Rhonda and Jerry Hammond of Patrick Springs; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service was held Thursday at Jacks Creek Primitive Baptist Church cemetery with Elder David Komoda officiating.

Marie Turner Hopkins Foster, age 87, of Martinsville, passed away Thursday, March 2, 2017, at her home.
She was born in Patrick County on January 29, 1930 and was a daughter of the late Homer and Lilia Mize Turner. She was also preceded in death by a husband, John Still; the father of her children, Grover Hopkins, five brothers, Gene, Ervin, Bob, Cecil and Walter Turner; and two sisters, Catherine Seagraves and Shirley Moore.
She was a member of Elamsville Primitive Baptist Church.Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Jean and Clyde Thomas of Stuart, Debra and Charlie Peters of Ferrum, and Rhonda and Bernie Mullins of Bassett; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Clyde and Nancy Turner, and Curtis Turner, all of Stuart; one sister, Nancy Shively of Ferrum; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Sunday, March 5 at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Pastor Joe Nunley officiating. Burial was in the Goblintown Church cemetery.

A Celebration of Life for Spencer Mack Gregory will be held Sunday, March 12, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with military rites by the Patrick County Veterans’ Memorial Honor Guard.

An interment will be held for Spencer and Opal on their anniversary, March 15, in the Burnette Family Cemetery.

MUDDRICK JOHNSON III
Muddrick “TJ” Johnson III, 46, of Stuart, died Monday, February 27, 2017, at his residence.
He was born on March 30, 1970 to J. Vonee’ Garrett Johnson and the late Muddrick T. Johnson Jr. He was also preceded in death by his maternal grand- parents, Squire W. Garrett and Lessie C. Garrett and paternal grandparents, Muddrick T. Johnson, Sr. and Margaret Tinsley.
Surviving are one daughter, Dalisha R. Llano of Kernersville, N.C.,; one brother, Kevin D. Johnson of Martinsville, Va.; and three grandchildren.
He attended First Baptist Church East in Martinsville, Martinsville High School class of 1988; He was employed at Community Living as a caregiver and was a United States Army veteran.
Funeral services were held Saturday at First Baptist Church East in Martinsville with Pastor Charles Whitfield officiating. Burial was in Carver Memorial Gardens in Martinsville.

DONALD C. LINDSAY
Donald Campbell Lindsay, 70, of Stuart, passed away on March 3, 2017.
He is survived by two children and five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be private.

James Leon “Jimmy” Massey, 68, of Martinsville, died Friday, February 24, 2017, in Q Ball Billiard Hall, Ridgeway.
He was born June 8, 1948 in Patrick County to the late William McKinley and Pansey Mae Foley Massey.
He was of the Baptist faith, and was the former operator of Skeets Pool Hall. He was a fixture at local pool halls in the area.
He is survived by one brother, William M.. Jr. and Mary Lou Massey of Martinsville; four sisters, Shirley Whaling of Martinsville, Peggy Shipley of Ohio, Linda Baynard of Reidsville, N.C., and Clydie Harrison of Martinsville, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life service was held Thursday at Clearview Gospel Mission with Pastor Susan Adkins officiating.

Garnett Handy Moore, 88, of Ridgeway, died Monday, March 6, 2017, at Blue Ridge Therapy Connection in Stuart.
She was born in Patrick County on May 4, 1928 and was a daughter of the late Thomas J. Handy and Nannie Roark Handy. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Marshall A. Moore; a brother, Thomas Glen Handy, a sister-in-law, Ruby Handy; and brothers-in-law, Curtis Corn and Bill Hole.She was a 1947 graduate of Hardin Reynolds Memorial School in Critz and retired from DuPont after 39 years of service. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church.She is survived by her sister, Reves H. Dorothy Vernon Shockley, age 86, of Stuart, passed away Saturday, March 04, 2017, at her home surrounded by her children.
She was born in Patrick County on November 16, 1930 to the late Felix Leonard Vernon and Minnie Nelson Vernon. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Arthur Guy Shockley, two sisters, Agnes Tucker and Eldean Shelton; and three brothers, Leonard, Dennis, and Ralph Vernon.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a longtime member of Concord United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school and was the pianist for 50 years, was president of the United Methodist Women, taught public school music in North Carolina, and volunteered at the Blue Ridge Nursing Center where she played the piano for many years.
Surviving are four children and their spouses, James A. “Jimmy” and Freda Shockley and Karen S. and Joseph A. “Buddy” Coleman, all of Stuart, David L. and Theresa Shockley of Fuquay Varina, N.C., and Gale Shockley of Radford; four grandchildren, Jonathan A. Coleman and wife Ashley of Christiansburg, Krista Shockley Hancock and husband Josh of Stuart, Caleb B. Shockley of Wilson, N.C., and Joshua B. Shockley of Fuquay Varina, N.C.; five great-grandchildren, Mason Cole Hancock, Evan Levi Hancock, Carlynn Elise Hancock, Lillie Grace Coleman and Reagan Elyse Coleman; one sister, Ruby V. Clark of Stuart; a special sister-in-law and aunt, Jessie Mae Vernon of Stuart; a sister-in-law, Cornelia Vernon of Stuart; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 7 at 2 p.m. at Concord United Methodist Church with Pastor Mark Clayton officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Ada Olene Wagoner Taylor, age 88, of Lynchburg, passed away Saturday, March 4, 2017, at Lynchburg General Hospital.
She was born in Patrick County on July 28, 1928 and was a daughter of the late Charles Reed Wagoner and Lillie Shelton Wagoner. She was also preceded in death by two sons, James Ray Wagoner and Johnny Grant Taylor Jr.; three sisters, Annie Ruth Wagoner Pilson, Virginia Ester Dalton Trent and Quincy May Mason; and five brothers, Percy Reed Wagoner, Charles O’Neill “Jack” Wagoner, James Clarence Wagoner, Henry Banner Wagoner and Robert Baker Wagoner.
She enjoyed flowers and gardening.
Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Vickie and Ralph E. Elder of Lynchburg; a daughter-in-law, Elva Wagoner of Patrick Springs; two grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; a special niece, Laverne Dalton of Key West, Fla.; numerous other nieces and nephews; and many special friends.
Funeral services will be held today (Wednesday) at 2 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Pastor J. R. Shelton officiating. Burial will follow in Patrick Memorial Gardens.

Howard Lewis Ullrich Sr., age 79, of Patrick Springs, passed away Friday, March 3, 2017, in the loving care of his family.
He was born in Waco, Tex., on August 20, 1937 and was a son of the late Lorenz W. Ullrich and Fannie Lou Bennett Ullrich Casey. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Cummings Ullrich; a daughter, Mary Ruth Ullrich; and a sister, Helen Marie Ullrich Griffith.
He was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, and had served honorably in the United States Air Force where he met the love of his life. He completed his military service in the United States Navy.
Surviving are three daughters and a son-in-law, Marian Ann Ullrich of Patrick Springs, Marie Allison Ullrich CDR, USN of San Diego, Calif., and Myra K. and Thomas Trent of Patrick Springs; one son, Howard L. Ullrich Jr. of Patrick Springs; two grandchildren, Emily N. Trent and Evan T. Trent; one sister, Doris Allison Ullrich of McGregor, Tex.; a special niece, Regina G. Galloway; and two special nephews, Tracy Griffith and 1st SGT Ben Witt.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 7 t 11 a.m. at Salem United Methodist Church with Pastor John Franklin officiating. Burial was in the Trent-Cummings Family Cemetery with military rites by the Patrick County Veterans’ Memorial Honor Guard.
