AILEEN H. ARDEN
Aileen H. Arden, 90, of The Landmark Center in Stuart, passed away on Monday, October 23, 2017, at Sovah Health Martinsville.
She was born in Franklin County on May 24, 1927, and was a daughter of the late Fitz and Effie Hale Hodges. She was also preceded in death by her son, Samuel Curtis Padgett; and brothers, William Eldridge Hodges, Herman Edward “Hunky” Hodges and Gary Wayne Hodges.
She was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are her daughter, Linda Padgett Hollandsworth; one granddaughter; daughter-in-law, Jackie Padgett; sisters, Avis Gilley and Marie Stone; brother, Lonnie Hodges; her roommate, Ellen Griffith; and several nieces and nephews who were very special to her.
She lived most of her life in Bassett and retired from Bassett Chair Company after many years of service. She spent her last years of retirement at The Landmark Center and she loved everyone there. Her favorite pastime involved drawing/coloring pictures and participating in the many activities. A special thank you goes to everyone there who made the last years of her life so enjoyable.
A private graveside service was held on Thursday, October 26 at Roselawn Burial Park.

LAWRENCE R. BURTON JR.
Lawrence Reveley (Larry) Burton Jr., of Fieldale, died at Sovah Hospital in Danville on October 29, 2017, after a lengthy illness.
He was born in Stuart on December 16, 1950, the son of Lawrence R. and Jacquelyn Alvis Burton, who predeceased him.
He is survived by his sisters Patricia Temples and husband Roger of Stanardsville, and Catherine Smart and husband Donnie of Patrick Springs; his niece, Lindsay Smart and nephew, Jared Smart, both of Patrick Springs.Larry was a 1969 graduate of Stuart High School and he attended the University of Richmond, where he studied history and political science. After leaving the University he studied real estate at Patrick Henry Community College and worked briefly in that field. He was employed at Bassett Furniture Industries in quality assurance for over 20 years. He also worked as a chef at the Eagles Club in Bassett.
His greatest talent was his ability to make people laugh. He could tell a joke like no one else and his laugh was infectious. A private graveside service will be scheduled at a later date.
AMANDA N. COALSON
Amanda Nicole “Nikki” Coalson, 32, of Ararat, passed away at her home Friday, October 27, 2017.
She was born in Surry County, N.C., on November 29, 1984, to Scarlet East Coalson and Charles Camet Coalson Jr. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Denny and Evelyn O’Neal East; her paternal grandparents, Elder Charles C. and Goldie Bowman Coalson; an uncle, Tim Alderman, and a special cousin, Mary Atkins Tate.
Nikki was very “special”, and a true gift from God. She was a loving, generous, and kind hearted young lady who enjoyed her life to her fullest. She deeply loved her family and friends, helping spread joy from the simplest of things. She had a knack for making you smile, and never forgetting to call each of us on our birthday. She was loved by everyone, who was blessed to know her.
Nikki attended Horizon Day treatments in Patrick Springs and attended Victory Baptist Church in Mount Airy, N.C. She enjoyed many things in life such as singing along with the church choir; watching Jeff Gordon, talking of driving a fast Mustang; and collecting zebras.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by a sister, Ashley Coalson and Roberto Rodriguez and their son, Mason Rodriguez; her aunts and uncles, Debra Goodrich, Denise Coalson, Denny Lee and Diane East; Jane and Mike Martin, and Sue Alderman; and many cousin too numerous to mention, and special friend, Tabatha Myall.
A funeral service was held Tuesday, October 31 at Mountain View Primitive Baptist Church in Ararat with the Revs. Dean Eaton, Mike Martin and Joey Jessup officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

AUSTIN L. FAIN
Austin Lawrence Fain, 18, of Patrick Springs, died on Friday, October 27, 2017.
He was born on May 21, 1999, to Fonda Fain and Delbert Fain. He was preceded in death by his father, Delbert Fain; a sister, Ashley Marie Martin; two grandmothers, Hattie Turman and Florence Fain; and two grandfathers, Lawrence O’dell Fain, Hubert Turman.`
He was of the Baptist faith and worked at Moore Hardwood Flooring in Eden, N.C. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, being with friends and helping everyone.
Surviving are his mother, Fonda Fain and step-dad Daniel Moore of the home; one sister, Jamie Fain Ayers of Henry County; special sister, Katie Moore Shelton of Eden, N.C.; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
The funeral was held Tuesday, October 31, at Norris Funeral Services Chapel in Stuart with Pastor Reggie Steele officiating. Burial was at Hills Grove Baptist Church in Claudville.

THELMA P. LEWIS
Thelma May Puckett Lewis, age 96, of Martinsville, passed away Friday, October 27, 2017, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C.
She was born in Meadows of Dan on January 22, 1921 to the late Samuel “Sambo” Puckett and Dora Lee Cockran Puckett. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Vee Lewis; a daughter, Eva May Hopkins; two sisters, Myrtle Boyd and Nellie Barnard; and two brothers, Charlie Puckett and Leonard Puckett.
She was a member of Old Spoon Creek Primitive Baptist Church. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and neighbor. She loved flowers, gardening, canning, and visiting friends and family. She especially enjoyed trips to Meadows of Dan and the surrounding communities.
Surviving are one daughter and sons-in-law, Kathy and Glenn Gauldin of Horsepasture and William Hopkins of Kernersville, N.C.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Duane and Vernie Lewis of Martinsville and Robert E. “Bob” and Sharon Lewis of Fancy Gap; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; one brother and sisters-in-law, Otis and Clara Puckett of Meadows of Dan and Evelyn Puckett of Chesterfield; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 31 at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Elder Tim McGrady officiating. Burial was in the Knowles-Eden Family Cemetery.

ELROY PACK
Elroy Pack, age 88, of Stuart, passed away Wednesday, October 25, 2017, at the Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, N.C.
He was born in Patrick County on March 27, 1929, to the late Robert Lee Pack and Correner Lewis Pack. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Arnold and Ricky Pack; a sister, Dorothy Boyd; and five brothers, Robert, John, William, Carl, and Otis Pack.
He was a retired truck driver and had served in the U.S. Army.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 62 years, Helen Smart Pack of the home; three daughters, Joann Bowman of Bassett, and Carolyn Pack and Tim Lawson and Teresa Overby and Robby Hylton, all of Stuart; six grandchildren, Chasity Foley, Christopher Bowman, Heather Heath and husband Bradley, Jessica P. Wood, Erika Pack and Harlie Hylton; two sisters, Madeline Marshall and Pauline Watkins, both of Vesta; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service was held Friday, October 27 at the Lewis Family Cemetery with military rites by the Patrick County Veterans’ Memorial Honor Guard.

PAULA P. PENDLETON
Paula Plaster Pendleton, age 77, of Patrick Springs, passed away at her home on Monday, October 30, 2017.
She was born in Patrick County to the late James Russell Plaster and Pauline Shough Plaster.
Paula had taught for Patrick County Public Schools for 33 years and was a long time member of the Patrick Springs Ruritan Club. She was a lifelong member of the Patrick Springs Pentecostal Holiness Church, where she was involved in the women’s ministry and enjoyed singing in the choir. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 54 years, Bobby Pendleton of the home; two children, Rene Coleman (Butch) of Patrick Springs and Ryan Pendleton (Heather) of Stuart; three grandchildren, Caeley Coleman, Melissa Pendleton and Josie Pendleton; one brother, Philip Plaster (Faye) of Patrick Springs; one sister, Linda Lawson (Max) of Patrick Springs; a sister-in-law, Barbara Pendleton of Woolwine; two brothers-in-law, Lane Pendleton and Eugene Rorrer, both of Stuart; several nieces and nephews; and an aunt, Coleen Shough of Patrick Springs.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 2, at 2 p.m. at Patrick Springs Pentecostal Holiness Church with Dr. Marion Poythress officiating. Burial will immediately follow in the Providence United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight (Wednesday) at the church from 6 to 8 p.m. and other times at the home.

NOLAN R. PRICE
Nolan Ray Price, 85, of Morgan Ford Road in Ridgeway, passed away Tuesday night, October 24, 2017, at Blue Ridge Nursing Center in Stuart.
He was born July 5, 1932, in Henry County to the late Jesse and Hazel Dean Price. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Jimmy, Arnold and Lawrence Price; and three sisters, Vivian Fulcher, Mae Hawks, and Joan Price.
He was a U.S. Army veteran and served in Germany and Alaska during the Korean War. He was an electrician and retired from Fluor-Daniel. He was a very active member of Bethel Baptist Church where he had served as a Sunday school teacher, deacon and choir leader.
He is survived by his wife, Madeline Price; son, Kenneth Price and wife Wrenn; daughter, Darlene Folds and husband Russell; six grandchildren; three brothers, Brenton W. Price, Billy Price and Morris Price; and five sisters, Nadine Lawson, Loretta Manuel, Abbidean Young, Betty Adkins and Ellie Harbour.
A funeral service was held Friday, October 27 at Bethel Baptist Church. Burial was in Mt. View Cemetery in Ridgeway with military rites performed by the Rockingham County Veterans’ Honor Guard and the N.C. National Guard. WALTER J. PRICE
Walter Jackson Price, 72, of Patrick Springs, died on Tuesday, October 24, 2017, at Blue Ridge Therapy Connection in Stuart.
He was born on December 26, 1944, and was a son of the late William Dalton Price and Leone Saunders Price.
He was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church in Patrick Springs and worked at Pannill Knitting in Martinsville until his retirement.
Surviving are his wife, Alvina Price of the home; two daughters, Angela Craig of Bassett and Denise Craig of Fieldale; one son, Mike Craig of Martinsville; one sister, Sondra Wade of Florida; one brother, William Dalton Price of Martinsville; and two grandchildren; Brandon and Shane Martin.
A memorial service was held at Pleasant View Baptist Church on Thursday, October 26 with Reverend Rick Anderson officiating. The burial was private.
