ANCE CLINE
Ance “Dino” Cline, 48, of Patrick Springs; died Monday, November 6, 2017. He was born January 16, 1969, and was preceded in death by his mother, Laura Blankenship Cline and his father, Ance Cline; his wife, Tracy Cline; brothers, Edmond Cline and Kenneth “Bo” Cline; and sisters, Sharon Lusk and Connie Blankenship.
He had worked at Bassett Mirror Company for 23 years.
Surviving are his children, Tiffany Cline of the home, Dustin Cline and wife Tamara of Fincastle, and Danielle Cline of Fincastle; one grandson; sisters, Wilma Coleman and husband Roy of Martinsville and Margie Lee of Bassett; brothers, Chris Cline and wife Crystal of Panther, W.Va., and Randall “Football” Cline of the home; and a host of nieces, nephews and special friends.
A graveside service was held Saturday, November 11 at the Cline family cemetery in Patrick Springs.
DIANA CLINE
Diana Cline, 51, of Bassett, passed away on Monday, November 6, 2017, at her home.
She was born on April 10, 1966, and was a daughter of the late Sherman and Cora Justice. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, Edmond Cline.
She is survived by her daughter, Denise Lane and husband Richard of Bassett; brothers, Jeff Justus and wife Tanya of Bassett, and Teddy Justus of Patrick County; one sister, Tammy McCoy and husband David of Bassett; one grandson; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousin and friends.
The funeral service was held Sunday at Bassett Funeral Services Chapel with Jimmy Gale Turner officiating. Burial was in the Cline family cemetery on Koger Mill Road in Patrick Springs.
KATHLEEN T. FAIN
Kathleen “Kat” Thompson Fain, age 87, of Stuart, passed away Saturday, November 11, 2017, at the Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, N.C.
She was born in Patrick County on October 17, 1930, to the late Amos Thompson and Mae Bowman Thompson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Lucille White; and a brother, David Thompson.
She loved farming and was a hard working woman.
Surviving are her husband of 64 years, Arlice “Newt” Fain of the home; three daughters and sons-in-law, Christine and Otis Pack of Mount Airy, N.C., Maxine and Joe Wright of Walnut Cove, N.C., and Sandra and Randy Collins of Stuart; one son and daughter-in-law, Randall and Linda Fain of Ararat; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister and brother-in-law, Evie and John Shambley of Claudville; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Daymond and Leona Thompson of Mount Airy, Grant and Joann Thompson of Anchorage, Alaska, and Floyd and Iva Thompson of Carlisle, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 14 at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Pastors Tommy Nichols and Scotty Bullins officiating. Burial was in the Unity Presbyterian Church cemetery.

BERNICE R. HANDY
Bernice Ray Handy, age 69, of Westfield, N.C., passed away Friday, November 10, 2017, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C.
He was born in Stokes County, N.C., on December 1, 1947, to the late Benjamin Handy and Minnie Overby Handy. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Betty Burnette Handy; and a daughter, Debbie Bowman.
He loved farming and was a member of Collinstown Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are two sons, Dallas E. Russell of Beckley, W.Va., and William M. Herndon and fiancé, Beverley Essick of Westfield; three grandchildren, Christy Handy, Kelly Hawks and Dolly Glenn; and two great-grandchildren, Jacob Handy and Daniel Handy.
Funeral services were held Monday, November 13, at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Pastors Shaun Draughn and Tracy Collins officiating. Burial was in the Stateline Primitive Baptist Church cemetery.

ANNIE H. HILL
Annie Sue Hylton Hill, age 79, of Stuart, passed away Monday, November 13, 2017, at Northern Hospital of Surry County in Mount Airy, N.C.
She was born in Stokes County, N.C., on February 10, 1938 to the late William Terry Hylton and Maggie Clark Hylton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Annette H. Penn; and two brothers, Harrison Hylton and William McKinley “Kenny” Hylton.
She had been a member of Tatum Macedonia Primitive Baptist Church since 1976 and was a mother of the church for many years. She worked at Narroflex for 52 years, and had a great sense of humor. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. Surviving are her husband of 60 years, Robert Hill of the home; four children, Wayne (Bessie) Hill of Stuart, James Robert (Sellinah) Hill of Stuart, Mary (Daryl) Smith of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Corretta H. Anthony of Stuart; 11 grandchildren, James Hylton, Brad Penn, Shuana Penn, Adrian Penn, Khyva Burgess, Sandile Hill, Ma Swazi Gause, Daryl Smith, Jr., Marquetta Smith, Erika Anthony and Denzel Anthony; 11 great-grandchildren; three step-sisters, Sarah Marie Moore of Charlotte, N.C., Betty Lou Love and Cassie Taylor, both of Winston-Salem; three aunts, Pearl Hylton Hughes of Detroit, Mich., Mae Clark of Patrick Springs and Ida Clark of Critz; one sister-in-law, Lucille T. Hill of Martinsville; and two brothers-in-law, Willie Clark of Washington, D.C., and Ralph Tatum of Fredericksburg; and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 18 at 2:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Elder Manuel Jessup officiating. Burial will follow in Patrick Memorial Gardens.

SIDNEY A. JONES JR.
Sidney A. “Junior” Jones, Jr., age 63, of Stuart, passed away Tuesday, November 7, 2017, at his home.
He was born in Patrick County on January 20, 1954, to the late Sidney A. Jones, Sr. and Sarah Elizabeth “Tottie” Goins Jones. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul Thomas Jones and Leon Allen Jones.
Junior had worked for Jones Brothers Construction for many years and was a member of Hills Grove Baptist Church where he served as deacon. He was a loving husband, father, Paw Paw, brother, and friend.
Surviving are his wife of 35 years, Wanda Parrish Jones of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Stacy and Brent Foley of Ridgeway; one son, Tony Jones of Stuart; four granddaughters, Milli, Avery, Adilynn and Hadley; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Patsy and Lynn Shouse of Stuart, Judy and Bobby Gardner of Stuart, and Robin and Bobby Pack of Westfield, N.C.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Lloyd and Patricia Jones and Larry and Patricia Jones, all of Stuart, and Ann Overby Jones of Westfield; several nieces and nephews; and his special Jack Russell, Tanner.
Funeral services were held Saturday, November 11, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Stuart with Pastor Randy Bartley, Brother Ricky Rogers, and Pastor Allan Vass officiating. Burial was in the Stuart Church of Christ Cemetery in Dry Pond.

JAMES C. LAWSON
James Clyde Lawson, age 79, of Stuart, passed away Sunday, November 12, 2017, at Blue Ridge Therapy Connection.
He was born in Surry County, N.C., on May 2, 1938, and was a son of the late Robert Harris Lawson and Novella Payne Lawson Culler. He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Claymore, Billy, Robert and Toby Lawson, and followed in death by his son, Ted Lawson.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and was a member of Temple Baptist Church.
Among the many who will always cherish his memory are his devoted wife, Frankie Puckett Lawson; one daughter, Joan Marshall; one granddaughter, Amanda Robertson and husband Derrick; grandchildren, Toby Robertson, and Katelynn Robertson; one sister and brother-in-law, Lounell and Randall Noah; one brother and sister-in-law, Cager and Nancy Lawson; and a special friend, Wayne Sowers.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, November 16, at Temple Baptist Church by the Rev. Zane Fishel. Burial will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends tonight (Wednesday) from 6 to 8 p.m. at Temple Baptist Church.

ARNOLD MEEKS
Arnold Meeks, 63, of Patrick Springs, passed away on Friday, November 10, 2017, at his residence.
He was born on January 2, 1954, in Martinsville and was a son of the late Harry Rufus Meeks and the late Ocie Cannaday Meeks. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Glenn Meeks.
He was a member of Christian Faith Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, choir director and Sunday school teacher.
Surviving are his devoted loving wife of 45 years, Diane Meeks; daughters, Missy Willard and husband DJ, and Jennifer Rea; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Irene Allred and Carolyn Roark and husband Stanley; and sister-in-law, Clara Meeks.
The funeral service was held Tuesday, November 14 at Bassett Funeral Service Chapel. Burial was in Old Center Primitive Baptist Church cemetery.

JAMES R. PENN, JR.
James R. Penn, Jr., 65, of Hardin Reynolds Rd., Critz, passed away Saturday, November 11, 2017, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
He was born June 22, 1952, in Virginia to Hattie Mae Gravely Penn and the late James R. Penn, Sr. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a son, Matthew U. Penn; and a sister, Geneva Hammond.
He is survived by his wife, Ann H. Penn of the home ; two daughters, Faith K. Penn of Critz and Antionette L. Penn of Raleigh, N.C.; one son, James T. Penn III of Omaha, NE; six grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Glenn and Robin M. Reynolds, both of Ridgeway; and three brothers, Robert L. Penn of Bassett, Rev. Bobby L. Penn of Martinsville and David W. Penn of Ridgeway.
He was a member of Greater New Bethel Apostolic Church where he was a member of the choir, deacon board and the kitchen committee. He retired from Meadwest Vaco, where he was employed for 40 years.
The family will receive friends one half hour prior to the service and other times at the home in Critz.
Funeral service will be held Thursday, November 16, at 1 p.m. at Greater New Bethel Apostolic Church with Pastor Mark E. Price Sr. officiating.
The interment will be in Carver Memorial Garden, Martinsville.

LINDA P. REYNOLDS
Linda Plaster Reynolds, age 70, of Stuart, passed away Tuesday, November 7, 2017, at her home.
She was born in Patrick County on July 12, 1947. She was preceded in death by her father, George Plaster.
She had retired from Fieldcrest Mills and was a longtime member of Mountain View Baptist Church where she and her husband pastored for over 16 years.
She is survived by her husband, Calvin L. Reynolds of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Treva R. and James Robertson of Patrick Springs; one son and daughter-in-law, Duane L. and Susan Reynolds of Patrick Springs; six grandchildren, Amanda Robertson, Derick Robertson and wife Amanda, Dena Robertson Hall and husband Daniel, Jacob Reynolds, Nicholas Reynolds and Bryson Reynolds; two great-grandchildren, Toby and Katelynn; her mother, Velma Adams Plaster of Patrick Springs; one sister, Shelby Roop, and two brothers, Garland Plaster and Don Plaster all of Patrick Springs; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Friday, November 10, at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Derick Robertson officiating. Burial was in the Reynolds Family Cemetery.

FRED N. SMART
Fred Nash Smart, age 80, of Stuart, passed away Thursday, November 9, 2017, at the Blue Ridge Therapy Connection in Stuart.
He was born in Patrick County on October 22, 1937, to the late Grover C. and Goldie Williams Smart. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Eva Smart Shockley; seven brothers, Buren, John, Perry, Kenneth and Charles Smart, and two infant brothers.
He was a graduate of Hardin Reynolds Memorial School and retired from DuPont in Martinsville with over 40 years of service. He was a member of Critz Baptist Church where he was a youth leader of the Royal Ambassadors and was a deacon and Sunday school teacher and mission field worker. He also served on the Buildings and Grounds Committee and the Pulpit Committee of Critz Baptist Church.
Upon retirement, he worked at PARC Workshop repairing furniture and being a friend to all the “kids.” He worked in his shop repairing and refinishing antiques and doing lots of crafts. He served on the Patrick County Draft Board, was a Boy Scout leader, and was a Girl Scout volunteer. He was an avid fan and supporter of all Patrick County youth, including all Patrick County High School sports teams and marching band.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Hopkins Smart of the home; a daughter, Lynette S. (Robby) Shelby of Granite Falls, N.C.; two stepsons, Larry R. (Karen) Fulcher of Critz and Rickie E. (Della) Fulcher of Stuart; four grandchildren, Brandy Fulcher (Larry) Miller of Lancaster, Pa., Eric R. (Candice) Fulcher of Stuart; Katrina Fulcher (Josh) Sutphin of Claudville, and Blaire Fulcher (Bucky) Goodale of Landis, N.C.; eight great-grandchildren, Bryson Fulcher, Lauren Fulcher, Veronica Miller, Benjamin Sutphin, Trey Miller, Audrey Goodale, Brooklyn Fulcher and Crash Goodale; and four brothers, Percy Smart of Scottsdale, Ariz., Grover C. (Pat) Smart of Gainesville, FL, Gene D. (Betsy) Smart of Doswell and Harold (Sue) Smart of Charlottesville, N.C.
Funeral services were held Sunday, November 12, at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Pastors Allan Vass and John Hopkins officiating. Burial was in Minnie’s Chapel Wesleyan Church cemetery.

Frederick Barry Wimbush, age 55, of Stuart, passed away Friday, November 10, 2017, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Mount Airy, N.C., on August 31, 1962. He was preceded in death by his father, Warren Harden Wimbush Sr.; and two sisters, Patricia Ann Wimbush and Constance Renee Wimbush.
He was a member of Iron Belt Christian Church.
Surviving are his mother, Annie Vaughn Wimbush of Stuart; three brothers, Warren Harden Wimbush Jr. of Stuart, Paul Michael Wimbush of Craigsville, and Kenneth Lane Wimbush of Stuart; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held today (Wednesday, November 15) at 1:30 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with the Rev. Willie Covington officiating. Burial will follow in the Iron Belt Christian Church cemetery.
A wake will be held 30 minutes prior to the service at the funeral home.
