HILDA W. DALTON
Hilda Ann Webb Dalton, age 73, of Stuart, passed away on Thursday, October 12, 2017, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home.
She was born in Floyd County to the late Lonnie Willie Webb and Edith Pendleton Webb. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by four brothers, Lonnie “Buddy” Webb, Lowell “Binky” Webb, Kyle Webb, and Wayne Webb; and two sisters, Hallie W. Semones and Betty Rose Webb.
She is survived by her two children, Elmo Dalton Jr. and Shonda Queen and husband Michael; six grandchildren, Harlie, Michaela, Dalton, Eli, Isabella, and Bentley; two sisters, Lois Boyd and Mozelle Boyd; a brother, Sidney Webb; and several nieces and nephews.
All services will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road Dobson, NC 27017.

C. WARREN FAIN
Curtis “Warren” Fain, age 81, of Woolwine, passed away Wednesday, October 11, 2017, at his home.
He was born in Patrick County on January 30, 1936 to the late James Preston Fain and Evna Belcher Fain. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James Calvin Fain; a sister, Ethel Fain; and a nephew, Calvin Harding Fain.He retired from Liberty Fabrics in 1998 after 40 years of dedicated service. He was a founding charter and lifetime member of the Woolwine Volunteer Fire Department Company #24 since 1973. He was an avid NASCAR fan, and was a football and basketball enthusiast. He enjoyed many years of fishing and the simple life.
He worshipped at Woolwine United Methodist Church.Surviving are his wife of 35 years, Carol Hodges Fain; sisters-in-law, Esther Fain, Linda and Odell Midkiff, Ruby Nester, and Shirley and Tony Belcher; a brother-in-law, Wayne Hodges; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and special cousins.Funeral services were held Sunday, October 15, at Woolwine United Methodist Church with Pastor Sandy Wright officiating and eulogy by Tim Belcher. Burial was in the Woolwine Cemetery.

LILA Q. HAZELWOOD
Lila Sue Quinn Hazelwood, age 58, of Fieldale, passed away on October 12, 2017, at Franklin Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Rocky Mount on March 28, 1959 and was a daughter of the late James Quinn and Pauline Prillman Quinn. She was also preceded in death by a son, John Robert Hazelwood, and a sister, Pam Q. Chappell.
She worked ten years for Fieldcrest Mills before its closing. After the mill was closed she went on to pursue a career as a licensed practical nurse. She was a very devoted caregiver, who was willing to go the extra mile for her patients. Lila will be remembered for the many wonderful things she was, she said, she did for others, and most of all her contagious laugh.Surviving are her husband, James R. Hazelwood of Stuart; children, Daniel Marshall (Rhonda) of Patrick Springs, Jay Hazelwood (Shyla) of Stuart, and Lindsey H. Keller (Christopher) of Roanoke; two brothers, J.L. Quinn (Nancy) of Hillsville and Samuel Quinn of Collinsville; and several nieces and nephews.The funeral service was held on Tuesday, October 17, at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Pastor Mark Wright officiating. JOSEPH W. HILL
Joseph William Hill, 86, of Stuart, died on Sunday, October 15, 2017, at his home.
He was born on February 16, 1931 in McDowell County, W.Va., to Cosby Jane Stanley Hill and Claude Swanson Hill. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Helen East Hill; a son, Michael Joseph Hill; and numerous brothers and sisters.
He was a member of Collinstown Presbyterian Church for 50 years. He was self employed as a contractor and was very helpful and generous to all people who he could help in the community. His kindness will be remembered by everyone.
Surviving are his daughter, Nanette Petersen of Stuart; one daughter-in-law, Susan Hill of Patrick Springs; one sister, Betty Sue Barnard of Amelia; four grandchildren, Heidi Foster and husband Chad of Patrick Springs, Heather Butcher and husband Jonathan of Stuart, and William and Joseph Petersen, both of Stuart; three great-grandchildren, Raylan Foster, Josie Mae Foster and Layla Butcher; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 21, at Collinstown Presbyterian Church in Stuart, with the Revs. Shawn Draughn, Mark George and Jesse Bledsoe officiating. The burial will be private.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 19, at Norris Funeral Services Chapel in Stuart.
ALMA F. HUGHES
Alma Elizabeth Fain Hughes, 93, of Stuart, passed away peacefully at her home on October 15, 2017.
She was born in Patrick County on May 15, 1924 and was a daughter of the late Elijah and Sarah Lawson Fain. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Murry Hughes; four brothers, Roy, Dewey, James, and Thomas Fain; and five sisters, Maude, Annie, Quennie, Ollie, and Irene Fain.
She had retired from United Elastic and also worked in the cafeteria at Stuart Elementary School. She was a member of Community Primitive Baptist Church.
Surviving are her children, Joan H. Turner of Stuart, Murry Hughes Jr. and wife Charlotte of Stuart; three grandchildren, Jamie Turner, Shannon Kendrick and husband Terry, and Cheyenne Marshall and husband, Kaleb; five great-grandchildren, Cathleen and Will Turner, Leah, Tyson and Cameron Kendrick; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Lois Joyce.
Funeral services will be held today (Wednesday October 18) at 11 a.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Elder Lewis Vass and Pastor Mark Wright officiating. Burial will follow in the Hughes-Lawson family cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home and at other times at her home.

HARVEY R. HYLTON
Harvey Ray Hylton, age 74, of Martinsville, and formerly of Patrick County, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, October 9, 2017, after a short battle with cancer.
He was born on April 13, 1943 in Slab Fork, W.Va., and was the son of the late Cabel and Callie Rakes Hylton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Suzanna Hylton, and a brother, William Howard Hylton.
He retired from Allied Systems after 25 years of service. He and his brother Lee operated a lawnmower repair shop in Collinsville for 20 years after retirement.
Surviving are his wife, Imogene Agee Hylton; one daughter, Debbie Hylton; and one son, Marty Hylton, all of the home; two grandsons; two brothers, Lee Hylton of Bassett and G.C. Hylton (Margaret) of Patrick Springs; four sisters, Gaynell Floyd of Stuart, Estelle Rakes of Patrick Springs, Virginia Sheppard of Stuart and Redith Shough (David) of Patrick Springs; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held Sunday, October 15, at Patrick Springs Pentecostal Holiness Church.
The family would like to express gratitude to the staff and nurses of Mountain Valley Hospice for their compassion and care.

Emmanuel Terry Lawson, age 44, of Stuart, passed away Tuesday, October 10, 2017.
He was born in Patrick County on November 7, 1972 and was a son of the late Claude and Bennie Ruth Collins Lawson. He was also preceded in death a brother, Doug Lawson, and an infant brother, Ray Lawson; and an uncle, Andy Inman.
He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Westfield, N.C. He truly loved his family as well as his church family. He enjoyed hunting, and always had a smile on his face.Surviving are his wife, Donna Adkins Lawson of the home; four brothers, Jimmy Lawson and wife Janet, Odell Lawson and wife Penny, Johnny Lawson and Stephanie Dunkley, and Garland Lawson, all of Stuart; four sisters, Arlene Bullins and husband Junior of Stuart, Lisa Rakes and husband Chris of Claudville, Tammy George and Alan Moore of Stuart, and Mary Parker and husband Freddie of Florence, Ala.; two aunts, Carlene Inman and husband Junior and Lena Inman; an uncle, Paul Light; and numerous nieces and nephews.Funeral services were held Saturday, October 14, at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Pastor Tommy Nichols officiating. Burial was in Patrick Memorial Gardens.

JAMES F. LAWSON
James Harry Franklin (Frank) Lawson, 82, of Martinsville, passed away on October 6, 2017, at Stanleytown Nursing Home after a decline in health.
He was born on May 9, 1935 in Patrick County, a son of the late James Manuel Lawson and the late Lucinda Ann Rakes Lawson.
He lived most of his life in the Martinsville area where he was employed by Virginia Blower Company as a technician. He was a well known musician playing the fiddle in the surrounding areas
Surviving are his former wife, Joan Charnley Rentzel of Fairfax; one daughter, Kimberly Lawson Jackson and husband Rory of Marianna, Fla.; two sons, Christopher Lawson and wife Bonnie of Cumberland, Md., and Terry Franklin Lawson of Martinsville; and nine grandchildren.
A special thanks to his nieces and nephews who live in the area, who gave of their time to help care for Frank and to be by his side during his illness.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, October 14, at Collins-McKee-Stone Funeral Home Chapel in Bassett. Interment was in the Handy Lawson Family Cemetery in Meadows of Dan.

JAMES A. SCOTT
James A. Scott, age 74, of Bassett passed away at home on Thursday, October 12, 2017.
He was self-employed in construction; he loved hunting, camping, fishing and the outdoors.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Mildred Shively Scott; and his beloved pet, Taco.
He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Regina; son, Mike Scott (Donna); daughter, Robin Keeler (Tim); grandchildren, Amber Pilson (Chad), Whitney Scott and Alan Keeler; one expected great granddaughter on Valentine’s Day 2018; sisters, Doris Carter, Phyllis Young (Joel), Wanda Scott and Rita Scott; several nieces and nephews; and his favorite pet, Roscoe.
Funeral services were conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel on Sunday, October 15, with Pastor Roger Jones officiating. Interment was in Maple Grove Cemetery.

Dorothy “Lillian” Terry, age 90, of Stuart, passed away Tuesday, October 11, 2017, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C.
She was born in Patrick County on June 3, 1927 and was a daughter of the late W.T. “Will” Hopkins and Evelyn Hubbard Hopkins. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Wesley Terry; a brother, Allen Hopkins; and two sisters, Minnie Puckett and Lucy Roantree.
She was a member of Sycamore Baptist Church.Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Dorothy and Melvin Hall of Laurel Fork; Alice and Dwight Wood of Stuart, and Libby and Roger Terry of Meadows of Dan; 12 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.Funeral services were held Monday, October 16, at Sycamore Baptist Church with Pastor Gerald Melton officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
