The congregation of Concord Primitive Baptist Church and members of Blue Ridge Heritage Inc. invite the public to an open house and historical presentation on Aug. 6 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.
The program will include information about the church’s history, community and challenges, and a discussion with the congregation and friends of the church.
Concord Primitive Baptist Church, located in Meadows of Dan, was founded in 1833. The present building was built in 1912.
The church’s interior is constructed primarily of unpainted American chestnut, which disappeared from our forests when it was killed by a chestnut blight early in the 20th century.
The church’s congregation currently numbers two active members.
“This is a rare opportunity to see this extraordinary interior,” stated a news release from the sponsoring organizations.
Light refreshments will be served during the open house.
Meadows of Dan is located near the intersection of Rt. 58 and the Blue Ridge Parkway. From business Rt. 58, turn at the large brick building (the Toy Time Museum) near the center of Meadows of Dan. Instead of taking Squirrel Spur Road (Rt. 614), take the immediate left onto Concord Church Road and go 0.4 mile to the church.
