Auditions will be held May 9 at 6 p.m. at The Pavilion at Nesselrod Bed and Breakfast, 7535 Lee Hwy., Radford for “Mary Draper Ingles: A Frontier Heroine’s Journey.” Callbacks will be held May 10 by invitation only.
The play, written by Kathleen Harshberger and Wesley Young, tells the story of Mary Draper Ingles, was captured in 1755 during a Native American raid at Draper’s Meadow near what is now Blacksburg. After being taken to present-day Ohio, Mary made a daring escape, and followed the river hundreds of miles to return home to her family in Virginia.
The play tells the story of Mary’s strength, and her determination to reunite with her family in the New River Valley.
Four to eight dynamic, focused performers over the age of 16 are needed to play a variety of roles. Almost all actors will double and perform in more than one role. Experience with outdoor drama is preferred. Rehearsals will begin in June for performances on June 25, July 30, August 27 and September 24. All performers will be paid.
Those attending should bring a headshot and resume, if available; conflicts and availability beginning June 1 and for the performance dates listed above; and wear clothes that are easy to move in and sturdy shoes (no flip-flops heels, hats or big jewelry).
