The Patrick County High School Cougars kicked off their outdoor track season at the Mighty Viking Invitational, hosted by North Stokes High School last Saturday.
“This is the perfect meet for us to make the transition from indoor to outdoor track. It gives us an ideal level of competition and is close to home, which is great for support,” said Coach Danel Slaydon.
“Our kids performed well today, but we lacked intensity across the board,” he said. “The beauty of season openers is that it shows us what we need to work on and sharpen, and helps us to see where we need to make adjustments in our training,” he added. “We have high expectations of our athletes, both on the track and in the field, and are looking forward to a great season,” said Slaydon.
The following individuals had top-10 performances:
Lexy Carico, 2nd (shot put); Molly Hernandez, 3rd (discus), 8th (shot put); Macie Rogers, 4th (mile), 4th (800); Armonte Carter, 5th (400), 8th (200); Arielle Taylor, 7th (mile).
