An all-new pageant is planned at this year’s Patrick County Agricultural Fair, including a change in location, new directors and other firsts.
The pageant will be held Sept. 16 in the auditorium at the Patrick County High School. New directors include Donna Pendleton and Karen Fulcher, with Patty Hazelwood to assist.
New masters of ceremonies include Richard Rogers and Patty Hazelwood for the first pageant; with Bill Goad assuming the role in the second pageant.
Admission for the first pageant is $5, with those under 6 years old admitted free.
Pre-school students are admitted to the second pageant for free; school-aged children will pay $5 and the cost of an adult admission is $8.
The second pageant includes an opportunity to win $200 in free groceries, thanks to Lowes Foods in Stuart.
Sponsored by the Stuart Rotary Club, the fair will celebrate its 65th year, while the fair pageant celebrates 38 years.
In honor of the milestone, the pageant theme is “Reflecting Back,” and many of the previous queens will be invited to take part in the production.
The pageant will be produced in two parts. The first begins at 1 p.m., and will feature babies to 12-year-olds in six categories: Baby Miss 0 to 12 months; Baby Miss 13 to 23 months; Wee Miss two- to -three-year-olds; Little Miss four to six years old; Young Miss seven- to nine-years-old; and pre-teen 10 to 12 years-old.
The second part – the Junior Miss and Miss pageants — will begin at 7 p.m. Junior Miss includes those aged 13 to 16 and Miss contestants are aged 17 to 22. Anyone who is not 23 by Sept. 16 is eligible to participate.
The winner of the Miss Patrick County Agricultural Fair Scholarship Pageant will be awarded a $1,000 scholarship. All category winners will be presented with one or more of the following: crowns, tiaras, sashes and/or trophies.
The pageant includes entertainment.
