Caring Hearts Free Clinic’s second annual “Share Your Heart with Pasta” fundraiser was successful, according to Christie Fain, executive director.
“We could not be more pleased with the overwhelming response we received,” Fain said.
A total of 270 meals were distributed by the end of the night, which was an increase from 244 meals last year.
“We exceeded our expectations and goal,” Fain said, adding the feat “would not have been possible without the love and support from individuals in the community by purchasing meals.”
The fundraiser was a ‘Drive and Dine’ style, with meals pre-ordered in advance and picked up on the day of the event.
Fain said helpers met diners with meals in hand, and the total time spent per pickup was less than three minutes. Customers also “didn’t even have to get out” of their vehicle.
The fundraiser also included lunch as an option, and patrons were given the opportunity of picking up their lunch or having it delivered to their business, providing 15 or more meals were ordered.
Rotary Club of Stuart purchased “an overwhelming 60 meals on the night of the fundraiser,” according to Fain, who added the meals were used in the club’s annual Valentine’s Dinner for its members and significant others. The club also presented Fain and Jane Carlson, board chairman, with a check to support work at the clinic.
The Landmark Center presented and planned the event, Fain said, adding many “deserve praise for planning, organizing, and preparing the fundraiser and delicious meal. Caring Hearts appreciates the support of our local partners who help build connections in the wider community and also helps enhance the lives of the individuals we aid.”
Moody Funeral Services sponsored the event, she said, adding “we could not continue to serve the uninsured patients without generous people. Each person is such an important piece of the puzzle. By purchasing the meal, everyone helped the clinic be able to continue providing medical care to the uninsured residents of Patrick County. We sincerely thank you.”
