The Patrick County 4-H Marksmen recently traveled to W.E. Skelton 4-H Educational Center at Smith Mountain Lake in Wirtz, to take part in the 2019 Virginia 4-H Spring Air competition. More than 22 4-H shooting clubs from around the state attended, with more than 160 kids competing in 10 different events.
Competing for the Patrick County 4-H Marksmen were Dylan Hodges, Lauren Murphy, Caleb Murphy, Nick Hooker, Emily Clark, Miller Hopkins, Steele Foley, Nathan Hodges, Evan Havens, and Jude Martin.
Individual and team results include:
Air Rifle – Senior Sporter Individual: Nick Hooker, first place; Emily Clark, fourth place; Caleb Murphy, 14th place; Steele Foley, 16th place; Lauren Murphy, 23rd place; and Dylan Hodges, 43rd place.
Air Rifle – Senior Sporter Team – first place team: Nick Hooker, Emily Clark, Caleb Murphy, and Steele Foley.
Air Rifle Silhouettes – Senior Individual: Emily Clark, first place; Nick Hooker, third place; Caleb Murphy, 15th place; Steele Foley, 18th place and Lauren Murphy, 29th place.
Air Rifle Silhouettes – Junior Individual: Dylan Hodges, fourth place; Miller Hopkins, ninth place and Evan Havens, 10th place.
Air Pistol Basic Supported – Junior Individual: Nathan Hodges, seventh place and Evan Havens, 11th place.
Air Pistol Standing Supported – Junior Individual: Jude Martin, 16th place.
Air Pistol Standing – Junior Supported Team – fourth place team: Nathan Hodges, Evan Havens and Jude Martin.
Air Pistol International Standing – Senior Individual: Steele Foley, first place; Nick Hooker, fifth place and Caleb Murphy, 19th place.
Air Pistol International Standing – Senior Team – second place team: Steele Foley, Nick Hooker and Caleb Murphy.
Archery Genesis – Senior Individual: Steele Foley, second place; Nick Hooker, 12th place; Lauren Murphy, 15th place and Caleb Murphy, 19th place.
Archery Genesis – Senior Team- first place team: Steele Foley, Nick Hooker and Lauren Murphy.
BB – Individual 11 and over: Lauren Murphy, 38th place; Dylan Hodges, 48th place; Evan Havens, 54th place; Miller Hopkins, 59thplace and Jude Martin, 63rd place.
BB – Team – sixth place team: Lauren Murphy, Evan Havens, Miller Hopkins, Jude Martin and Dylan Hodges.
BB – Individual 10 and under: Nathan Hodges, sixth place.

The Patrick County 4-H Marksmen use shooting as a vehicle to teach youth ages 9-19 life skills such as responsibility, self-discipline, and teamwork through skills learned in archery, muzzle loading, pistol, rifle, and shotgun. Through these disciplines, youth also learn firearm safety and marksmanship. We thank our organizers for their support.
