The Patrick County 4-H Marksmen recently traveled to Holiday Lake 4H Center in Appomattox to take part in the 2019 Virginia 4-H State Shoot. More than thirty-seven 4H shooting clubs from around the state attended, with more than 325 kids competing in sixteen different events.
Competing for the Patrick County 4-H Marksmen were Emily Clark, Steele Foley, Dylan Hodges, Nathan Hodges, Nick Hooker, Caleb Murphy, Lauren Murphy, and Matthew Shelton.

Nick Hooker received the prestigious Paul Benneche Award. The Paul Benneche Award is presented to the highest scoring competitor in the 3-Position Smallbore Light Rifle Iron Sights at the Virginia State 4-H Shoot September 13-15, 219.
Caleb Murphy was named as a Virginia 4-H Shooting Education Ambassador. Caleb will serve a two-year term and along with 16 other teenagers who will positively represent Virginia 4-H Shooting Education throughout the state and beyond!
The Patrick County 4-H Marksmen concluded their 4-H year on September 30th. With the conclusion of the 4-H year the club says good bye and best wishes to senior members that have aged out. Those members aging out of the Patrick County 4-H Marksmen include: Nick Hooker, Emily Clark, Steele Foley, and Matthew Shelton.
The club would like to thank American Legion Post # 105, Shooters Gun and Pawn, Patrick County Sheriff’s Office, and Stuart Family Restaurant for their continuing support.
The Patrick County 4-H Marksmen use shooting as a vehicle to teach youth ages 9-19 life skills such as responsibility, self-discipline, and teamwork through skills learned in archery, muzzle loading, pistol, rifle, and shotgun. Through these disciplines, youth also learn firearm safety and marksmanship.
The Patrick County 4-H Marksmen Club practices in Stuart and new members are welcome for current Fall enrollment.
