The Patrick County Democratic Committee will hold an assembled caucus on Saturday, December 11, at 11 a.m. at the Patrick County Branch Library in Stuart, to elect members of the county committee for 2022-2023.
The Democratic Party of Virginia mandates that local county and city committees reorganize every two years.
All registered voters in Patrick County who wish to participate in the committee and in local Democratic Party activities are cordially invited to attend.
Participants are urged to arrive at 10:45 a.m. for check-in and will be asked to sign a standard Caucus Participation Form stating that they are Democrats, do not intend to support any candidate opposed to a Democrat in a general election, believes in the principles of the Democratic Party and is a registered voter in Patrick County.
Participants must also indicate on the form whether they are filing to be a member of the committee.
Doors to the caucus will close at 11:15 a.m., and only those persons who have checked in will be able to participate.
The assembled voters will then elect the members of the Committee, who will serve for calendar years 2022 and 2023. Committee members are expected to act as grassroots Democratic leaders in such areas as voter registration and campaigning for Democratic candidates for office. Insofar as possible, the new committee should represent all voting precincts in Patrick County.
Immediately following the adjournment of the caucus, a meeting of the new committee will be convened to elect officers for 2022 -2023. A strong two-party system is an important component of our democracy and local party committees are a way to make your voice heard.
