A 2017 Patrick County High School graduate was among those to stand guard as former President George Bush became the 32nd person to lie in state in the United States Capitol.
The 41st president died December 1. He was 94.
Seth Barnes was among those assigned to stand watch over Mr. Bush’s casket last week in Washington, D.C.
“It was one of the greatest moments in my life,” Barnes said.
He recalled learning about Bush while attending Patrick County High School.
“It was a major honor to stand watch over his casket,” said Barnes.
A 2017 PCHS graduate, Barnes joined the Navy in January and serves as a ceremonial guardsman, which requires him to render honors for fallen shipmates in Arlington National Cemetery and perform ceremonies on behalf of the Navy.
He is the son of Christopher and Amanda Barnes, of Stuart.
