The Patrick County High School Track and Field Team competed in the Twilight Invitational at the University of Lynchburg on April 26.
“We saw big breakthroughs for a lot our athletes on a lot of different levels. On the boys’ side, Garrett Worley jumped 5′ 6″ in the high jump, which is impressive for his first attempt at that event in a meet setting,” Coach Lynne Deckel said. “He also set a personal record in the 200m, putting him that much closer to the state qualifying mark. In his 4 x 400m opening leg, he started in first and handed off in first in a personal best split. You can’t ask much more than to get the job done and that’s what he did,” she added.
“Jonny Crowell also set a personal record in the 200m dash, finally breaking through a wall that he had been chipping away at for quite some time,” Deckel said.
“The 4 x 400m relay team (Worley, Brandon Rohrbach, Kristian Reynolds, Jared Biedrycki) ran a personal best team time under 3:40, so they met their goal for the meet, as they are also trying to qualify for the state meet prior to regionals. On the girls’ side, Vanessa Mabe set a personal record in the mile by three seconds, Natalie Evans set a personal record in the 800m by seven seconds and Chloe Johns set a personal record in the shot by more than three feet. Molly Hernandez continued to show her dominance in the discus in winning the event,” Deckel said.
“We are hoping to continue this momentum as we head towards the championship portion of our season. We have some seniors that are striving to go out on top,” said Deckel.
