Patrick County Public Schools held its annual Spelling Bee on Thursday, February 22 at Patrick County High School. Students from throughout the county represented each of the schools in the division.
The winner of the spelling bee was Quentyn Penn, a fifth grader at Stuart Elementary School. Second place went to Heather Edwards, a sixth grader at Hardin Reynolds Memorial School. In third place was Adam Thompson, a sixth grader at Meadows of Dan Elementary School.
The winning word was “canine.” Quentyn will go on to represent Patrick County in the Regional Spelling Bee which will be held at the Hanes Brands Theatre in Winston-Salem, N.C., on March 18.
