Patrick Henry Community College (PHCC) is hosting the first preliminary to the Miss Virginia/Miss America scholarship program on Saturday, February 4 at 6 p.m.
The Miss Patrick Henry Community College Scholarship Pageant is open to females currently enrolled or previously enrolled at PHCC. They must be 17 years old on the day of the PHCC event and can be no older than 24 years old as of December 31, 2017.
PHCC is the lone Virginia college offering a local pageant this year. The school last crowned a Miss PHCC in the 1970s. This marks the first time that the overall winner advances to the Miss Virginia Pageant, which is in Roanoke, with the possibility of competing in the Miss America Pageant in Atlantic City, NJ.
“We are thrilled to bring this competition to Patrick Henry Community College,” said executive director of the Miss PHCC Pageant Jane Leizer. “The Miss America Pageant is the largest scholastic benefactor to women in the world so this is an amazing opportunity for young ladies to earn significant money for college. More important is the life skills that the process builds and we are committed to helping each contestant prepare in all areas of competition.”
Miss PHCC and runners-up receive scholarships. The specific amount of scholarships being awarded will not be known until closer to the pageant date.
The application and additional information can be found at www.patrickhenry.edu/MissPHCC. Completed applications must be submitted no later than 5 p.m. on January 20, 2017.
