Del. Charles D. Poindexter (R-Franklin County) announced that he will seek re-election to the 9th District House seat in the Virginia General Assembly.
“I am privileged to serve the people of the 9th District in the Virginia General Assembly,” Poindexter said. “I am proud to represent our rural and small-town Virginia values, including our family unit culture, life of the unborn, and Judeo-Christian basis of our state, country and government.” Poindexter said his record proves that he stands firm in these and in the fight for fewer government regulations, low taxes, excellence in education, our Second Amendment, and in support of our veterans, first responders, farmers and small businesses.
“I am ever-mindful of the need to help create a favorable environment for jobs and small business opportunities throughout the 9th District and our region,” Poindexter said.
Poindexter serves on the House Appropriations Committee; the Agriculture, Chesapeake and Natural Resources Committee as Vice Chair; and, the Counties, Cities and Towns Committee. As a member of the House Appropriations Committee, one of Poindexter’s primary responsibilities is working to develop and balance the state’s biennial budget.
During the 2019 session, as chairman of the House Appropriations Compensation and Retirement Subcommittee, Poindexter supported providing raises for our state workforce, teachers and support staff, college faculty, state police, state-supported local deputies, constitutional officers and registrars.
Poindexter also sponsored legislation that would prohibit the Governor from joining any “Cap and Trade” scheme and “Tax and Spend” scheme for our electricity generators and transportation sector without approval from the Virginia General Assembly. “I do not believe the Governor and unelected bureaucrats should be implementing policies and costs to consumers without a legislative role and participation in the process. Electricity and transportation are too vital in our lives, to our health, economy, safety, and everything we do for the people’s elected representatives not to have a voice in those decisions,” Poindexter said.
He also supported legislation that would reform Virginia’s tax laws so that Virginians can take advantage of the federal tax laws signed into law by President Trump. “My main goal during this past session was to see that taxpayer money from the Trump Tax Cuts would be returned to you, the taxpayer, Poindexter said.
Poindexter successfully helped defeat legislation that would eliminate Virginia’s Right-To-Work law, phase out fossil fuel use for electricity generation, transportation, and other uses, anti-Second Amendment bills, and a bill that would allow abortions at any time including at the moment of birth.
The 9th House District includes Patrick County, most of Franklin County and western Henry County. The general election will be held on Nov. 5.
