Parents are urged to bring their child/children to their local elementary school to complete the registration process.
KINDERGARTEN Parents of children who have reached their fifth birthday by September 30 may register their child for kindergarten for the 2017-2018 school year. Registration will be held on Thursday, March 9 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the school the child will attend. Children will not be admitted to kindergarten if they reach their fifth birthday after September 30.Registration information to bring to registration includes the child’s birth certificate, Social Security card, and physical exam with shot record performed no earlier than 12 months prior to the start of school.
Parents are urged to come to the school their child plans to attend to receive necessary forms and to provide information pertinent to school records. Parents should bring a certified copy of their child’s birth certificate. Physical examinations do not have to be completed at the time of registration; however, physical examinations must be completed by the first attendance day. Parents are encouraged to bring their child to registration for screening purposes.
PRE-KINDERGARTEN All parents who have children that will be four years old on or before September 30 are invited to attend the Application Submission Session on Thursday, March 9 from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. at your local school. At this time, the current Pre-K teacher will be present to assist in completing the application and answer any questions that parents may have about the program. Patrick County Public Schools participates in the Virginia Preschool Initiative (VPI). Students must meet one of four criteria to qualify for the VPI program.• Family income must be at or below 200 percent of poverty.• Homelessness defined as an individual who lacks a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence: sharing housing due to loss of housing or economic hardship, living in motels, hotels, trailer parks or campgrounds due to lack of alternative adequate housing, living in emergency or transitional housing.• Student’s parents or guardians are school dropouts.• Family income is less than 350 percent of federal poverty guidelines in the case of students with special needs or disabilitiesRegistration information to bring to the school includes: verification of household income (pay stub, income tax return), proof of residency (electric bill, etc.), birth certificate, Social Security card, and physical exam and shot record to be completed prior to the first day of schoolParents are to contact the school if they are unable to register their child on Thursday, March 9.
