Denise Stirewalt is a thinker and a do-er.
A lifelong resident of Patrick County, Denise and her husband Gene are civic-minded participants and energetic leaders.
Denise was a professional in the tourism industry in Asheville, but has spent five years working in economic development as well as tourism here in Patrick County. She handled finances for the county EDA board as Administrative Assistant and was known for her sharp eye for detail. In ’06 through ’08, Denise was a member of the Chamber of Commerce Board. She was also on the search committee at Stuart Baptist Church, which resulted in the bringing in of Tom Walker as pastor. Denise was a realtor for a dozen years and was active with the early negotiations with Wal-Mart, representing the property owner. A fact not widely known outside of her family, Denise made a personal contribution to bring about the development which has resulted in additional new businesses.
Currently, Denise works part time in several business endeavors: New York Life, a meeting and convention firm, and a shop in Meadows of Dan. Denise and Gene have three children and reside in the Peters Creek District.
When my wife and I bought and built here 20 years ago, there was no “welcome wagon” or “happy-to-meet-you-committee,” so Denise and her sister Cynthia sought us out and welcomed us with introductions, tours of the county, practical information and covered dishes. She has been a warm, genuine friend to a great many people and an outstanding citizen of our county. She richly deserves election to the Board of Supervisors.
