Isaiah 57:15
Intro: Revival expectations (notice that)
- As saved we should expect: A reviving of our spirits Psalms 85:6 Wilt thou not revive us again: that thy people may rejoice in thee?
- As saints we should expect: A restoring of our sanctification 2nd Chronicles 29:15 And they gathered their brethren, and sanctified themselves, and came, according to the commandment of the king, by the words of the Lord, to cleanse the house of the Lord.
- As servants we should expect: A renewing of our strength Isaiah 40:31 But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
Purpose for revival: God’s purpose for revival is to:
Revive us spiritually: Notice that this spiritual reviving is
- Authored by the Savior: 2nd Chronicles 7:14: If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
- Authenticated by the scriptures: Isaiah 8:20: To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.
- Administered by the Spirit: Acts 1:4: And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.
Restore us scripturally: Notice that in this scriptural restoration God will restore
- Bible preaching: 2nd Timothy 4:2: Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long-suffering and doctrine.
- Bible practice: Deuteronomy 8:3: And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the Lord doth man live.
- Bible praise: John 4:24: God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
Renew us supernaturally: Notice that this supernatural renewing will bring about
- A new zeal = Which is the renewal of = Our spiritual earnestness: 1st Corinthians 15:58: Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.
- A new zest = Which is the renewal of = Our spiritual enthusiasm: Psalms 42: 1 and 2: As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God. My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God?
A new zip = Which is the renewal of = Our spiritual energy: Ephesians 1:19: And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us—ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,
