A third-quarter touchdown run from Avone Kidd gave the Cougars hope, but Radford’s early lead and late field goal proved just enough in a tough 16-7 battle on October 10 at Radford
After a scoreless first quarter, Radford opened up the scoring with a 28-yard touchdown throw. The Bobcats would extend their lead late in the half with another touchdown pass, taking a 13-0 lead into the locker room.
Behind great blocking, Avone Kidd raced down the sideline for a 41-yard touchdown run with 6:40 to go in the third quarter. With the Erik Martinez-Tejada extra point, the Cougars closed the gap to 7-13.
The rest of the game was a defensive battle, with the only points coming on a Radford field goal very late in the fourth quarter, making the final score 7-16.
Defensively, Jackson Callahan and Wheeler Helms led the Cougars with 7 tackles each. Adin Geiger added 5 tackles, 2 for a loss and 2 sacks. Jayden Corns had 4 tackles and an interception.
Avone Kidd led the offense with 121 yards and a touchdown. Calvin Lancaster chipped in 63 yards on the ground and 11 yards on 3 receptions.
Next up for the Cougars is Nelson County on October 17 at John D. Hooker Field.
