It is with a great deal of sadness that we announce that for the first time in almost 30 years there will be no Relay For Life in Patrick County.
Efforts were made to encourage community involvement this year and the community response has led us to make this difficult decision. To date, we have three teams and 2 people to support the cause and coordinate the event. We would like to thank all of the people of the community who have supported Patrick County Relay in the past years. You have raised thousands of dollars to help cancer research. There are a lot of people in this community who owe their lives to the research that has been done in the past years. Unfortunately, another casualty of not having Relay will be the Survivor Dinner. The survivor dinner was always financed by the food sold at Relay or by a contributing sponsor. That saddens us the most. There are so many wonderful survivors in this community and they deserve to be recognized and honored as such.
The American Cancer Society allocates more money to research THAN ANY OTHER CANCER ORGANIZATION. It is our hope that you will continue to contribute to the ACS so they can continue their vital work.
Everyone is still invited to participate in a Relay For Life event in a surrounding community as a full participant/survivor. If you, and/or your Relay team, are interested in participating in a neighboring community please contact Adam Ford at (540)434-5818 to be connected with that community’s event.
A list of the surrounding events includes Relay For Life of Floyd County, date to be announced; Relay For Life of Martinsville/Henry County, June 9; Relay For Life of Franklin County, June 23; Relay For Life of Stokes County, May 5; and Relay For Life of Carroll County, June 9. The American Cancer Society will continue to support those in need in our community that are facing, or have loved ones facing, cancer. ACS has resources and connections that anyone facing cancer can utilize by calling 1 800) 227-2345 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to be connected to trained support staff that can assist with anything from understanding the diagnosis to working with Medicare to receive the treatment and support they need. Information and resources can also be found at www.cancer.org.
Thank you again for all your support in past years.
