Those who’d like to learn to create stunning works of art may enjoy the Introduction to Alcohol Inks class taught by Cindy Howe on Saturday, Jan. 14, from 10 a.m. to noon at Reynolds Homestead.
Alcohol inks can be a fun way to use colors in painting and to also add color to different surfaces such as glass and metals. The brightness of the color means that a small bottle of ink will go a long way. Alcohol inks are an acid-free, fast drying medium used on non-porous surfaces.
Mixing colors can create a vibrant marbled effect and the possibilities can only be limited by what an artist is willing to try.
In this introductory class, Howe will focus on learning how the inks work to create a beautiful Blue Ridge Mountain scene. Participants will work with yupo paper and with tile. The cost of the class is $28 and all materials are included.
Registration is required. Space is limited. Call (276) 694-7181. In the event of inclement weather, the make-up date is Saturday, Jan. 21.
For those who would like to try their hand at weaving, Judi Sanborn will be teaching a Weekend Shawl Weaving class on Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 21 and 22. Saturday’s class will run from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. (bring a bag lunch) and Sunday’s class is from 2 to 5 p.m.
Participants are asked to bring two skeins of four-ply yarn. Snow dates are January 28 and 29. The cost is $60 and the class is limited to six students. Call (276) 694-7181 to register.
