Sam Warren Belcher, age 92, of Woolwine, died Friday, August 19, 2016, at his home.
He was born in Patrick County on May 27, 1924, and was a son of the late Robert Belcher and India Boyd Belcher. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Wreathie Hylton and Winnie Hylton; six brothers, Winfred, Wayne, Lester, Wesley, Waller and Albert Belcher; and a son-in-law, Lawrence Lee “Larry” Brannon Jr.
He was the owner/operator of Sam Belcher and Sons Logging and was a member of Sycamore Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting and trading knives.
Surviving are his wife of 71 years, Lillian Wood Belcher of the home; two daughters and a son-in-law, Linda and Vernon Harris of Stuart and Faye Brannon of Meadows of Dan; three sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Ann Belcher of Stuart, Ellis and Jeanette Belcher of Woolwine, and Benton and Jennifer Belcher of Stuart; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special caregiver, Bernice Lanning.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 23, at Sycamore Baptist Church with the Rev. Gerald Melton officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Smith River Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 122, Woolwine, Va., 24185, Woolwine Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 138, Woolwine, Va., 24185, or to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 18981 Jeb Stuart Hwy., Stuart, Va., 24171.
