Surry Community College will be offering the following free workshops for unemployed and underemployed workers in July. No pre-registration is required, and all of these classes will be held at the Surry County Workforce Center (Employment Office), 541 West Pine Street, Mount Airy, N.C.
• Stress Management, Budgeting on Less and Surviving a Layoff will be offered on July 5 from 1 to 4 p.m. Participants will learn effective ways to cope with stress to become more productive and reduce burnout. Students will also be informed on how to budget on less and survive a layoff in four steps.
• Networking Your Way to Success, Dress for Success With Career Gear will be offered on July 12 from 1 to 4 p.m. Participants will learn important ways of networking with friends, relatives, acquaintances, direct employer contacts, and job information web sites to tap into the hidden job market. They will also master the skill of dressing for success and improving their total image.
• Make a Great Impression with Your Resume will be offered on July 19 from 1 to 4 p.m. Learn resume design and layout tips to make your resume stand out to potential employers. Those attending may bring old resumes for feedback and to be updated. Anyone without a resume need not worry; the workshop will cover resume development as well.
• Moving Forward: Career Information will be offered on July 26 from 1 to 4 p.m. Find answers to some of life’s toughest questions: “Who am I?” “What am I going to do?” and “Where am I going from here?”.
Workshop attendees will unlock the mystery to finding jobs that are most likely to satisfy them and learn how to discover sources of career information. Help will be provided identifying training needs and locations. Information about the Career Readiness Certification will also be provided.
