The Patrick County Board of Supervisors generally agreed Monday to give the school division $7.1 million in fiscal 2018-19, an estimated $800,000 less than the division requested.
They also agreed to ask for a line item budget from the division, which would detail expenses in specific areas, as well as which areas are cut to make the $800,000 adjustment.
Lock Boyce, chairman and of the Mayo River District, and Jane Scales Fulk, of the Dan River District, also plan to meet with school officials to discuss budget and concerns about some expenses.
The school budget is set to be presented to the school board on Thursday, March 29 at 6 p.m. in the Patrick County High School Library.
State law requires the school board to vote on a budget by the end of March. Adjustments will be made as needed.
The county also will hold a public hearing on the proposed tax rates on March 29, at 6:30 p.m. in the third floor meeting room of the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Building. The proposed tax levies are the same as the current levels, with Real Estate tax rate at .57 per hundred and the Personal Property tax rate of $1.71 per hundred.
