Enrollment in Patrick County public schools for the first day of school, Thursday, Aug. 11, was 2,394, according to a report from the school board office.
The first-day total for the 2016-2017 school year is lower than the first-day totals for the four previous years, but it is typical for the totals to grow with increased enrollment throughout the first month of school.
Earlier totals were: 2,450 in 2015-2016; 2,417 in 2014-2015; 2,439 in 2013-2014; and 2,406 in 2012-2013.
Individual schools in Patrick County reported the following first-day totals: Blue Ridge Elementary School, 255; Hardin Reynolds Memorial School, 226; Meadows of Dan Elementary School, 128; Patrick Springs Primary School, 243; Stuart Elementary School, 417; Woolwine Elementary School, 194; and Patrick County High School, 931.
The totals include 50 special education students; 69 pre-kindergarten students; 178 kindergarten students; 179 first-graders; 136 second-graders; 171 third-graders; 167 fourth-graders; 195 eighty-graders; 155 ninth-graders; 194 tenth-graders; 212 eleventh-graders; and 175 twelfth-graders.
